3 inch lift???

Yes i kno use the search feature, and i have. I just have a more specific question. I am looking at getting a 3 inch lift for my 06 Tacoma DC. I have been a member for awhile and have done quite a bit of reading, But now that i have saved up some money (at my minimum wage job) i have been looking at lifts. Ive read that the spacer lifts arent the best option, so i have stayed away from looking at those. My ideal lift option would be to get the Toytec ultimate lift kit or the OME lift kit. These, however, are a little out of my price range as i would like to get wheels and tires to fit the higher stance. I have been looking at other lifts and i was wondering if anyone has had experience with this lift. I dont want to spend too much money but i want to try to keep factory ride quality while being able to add height and fit bigger tires.

Well you have the dc so you will have to have the 885 coils :Optional med and heavy coils can be selected but require OME N140S shocks sold separately.

 

yea, go that route and you'll end up needing half the OME lift anyway. 884 coils will sag like a bitch and like Steve said, 885 needs OME shocks (N140S are old and aren't sold there anymore... OME90000 are the new ones >

Get that kit you linked to, and then the front struts to go with it.
Then just put the standard 2" AAL in the rear.

I have that exact kit on my 06' DC with the 885 coils. Only difference is I swapped out all 4 shocks with 5100's. Just from my experience with my setup, it gives it a stiffer ride but feels a lot more sturdy to me.

 

My truck had the kit with 884 coils on stock trd shocks on an 05 double cab 4x4 shortbed for a little over 50k miles and I loved it. I recently added an all pro front bumper and with in a week my stock shocks began leaking(85k on the truck), so I finally replaced them with 5100's. Not sure if this was a coincidence or not. But even with the all pro front bumper and dc the 884's seemed to work fine, I didn't notice any drop in the front end, it measured within 1/4" on both sides after the bumper install, so I'm not sure they would sag too much(mine might have already began to sag, I have no idea b/c I bought the truck with kit already installed, but I've never had a problem clearing 285's)

I think the 884's rode great on stock shocks like in the kit you linked. As for the back the 2aal rode well, but when removing my leaf pack last weekend to install my OME Dakar rear springs I noticed that both aal's were broken?? Not sure what caused it, and I'm not knocking Toytec, just sharing my experiece, since I ran the lift kit you had linked.

My truck spends a lot of time on the hwy (38k miles in 18 months)and some time offroad during the hunting seasons, and overall I thought the ride was pretty good.

 

That is the lift I put on my truck. No problems with anything. I have been out wheelin' and everything worked out great. I, too, wanted the Toytec Ultimate Lift or an OME kit. I just couldn't fork out the cash for it. So I went with the next best thing. Here is my truck.

Is it a must that you get the N140 shocks with this option? On the site it says "required" but I thought it was mostly "recommended."

Same rules apply about UCAs right? The usual "UCAs are recommended but not needed if you can get it aligned and that the truck doesn't wander all over the highway."

 

Hey guys thanks for the quick responses. So basically if i wanted to get the 885 coils i would have to spend an extra 300 on the shocks...so if i wanted to do that i might as well just get the OME. My main concern was that i wanted to clear 285s and from Djs05tacomas response this can be done easily with the 884s and stock shocks. I think i am going to go with the 884s and aal here in the next month hopefully. The mod bug has finally bit me....and from what i hear it sticks with you and keeps getting worse

i went the toyotec route as instructed by my buddie so i bought a 3" tec from the company he works for love it!!!

 

Both you and I have have double cabs. I don't think it's a good idea that you get 884s.

I agree...If you are going to go with the OME kit, get the 885's.

Yes. They are not only a stronger coil to increase cornering capabilities and impact from off-roading, but also help in getting the maximum lift out of your kit and support the weight of double cabs.

 

definitely your choice, 884s will probably be great for a while but in the end they won't hold up to your double cab weight especially if you plan on off-roading

 

Wouldn't they hold up the same as 885's, since the 884's are the same spring rate, just 10mm shorter in height?

 

Did you use a top plate spacer with the 885's?

 

not from what i've heard, i have no idea why though. i do know when i was considering 884s and about 15 people told me to go 885 it had to be for some reason lol
