This thread is so hard haha. Coilovers or tune. Literally might flip a coin. What is the ship time for this currently? And the part where is says handheld needed, will my laptop suffice?
Also does anything else need to be done if you throw on an intake and exhaust? All i remember from my 5.0, is when I changed stuff like that I needed a re tune

    Tune.
Where does it say on the website anything about a handheld? You must use a computer running windows.
Not now, in the future he’ll do vehicle specific tunes for things like exhaust and intake. But the tune is for a stock truck with trd exhaust. It works fine with stock exhaust.

We will have a new product announced for the 3.5, valentine's day after Dyno results on new tune.

Has anyone compared the OVTune to the SSP shift controller? I know they’re different technologies, and the tune does much more, but it seems a primary focus for both is to improve shifting.

I was also curious about this.
In my research I've seen a couple of people ditch the SSP after getting the tune...none the other way.

REALLY! Like teasing us with 1.03 isn't enough.

I'm hoping it's the tune manager app, full version.

    or maybe the datalogger..

SSP is a whole different ballgame - functional from what I read and hear and does exactly what it's supposed to do. However, it is pegging shift points based purely on speed which helps ensure you don't find yourself in, say, 6th gear doing 30mph thus requiring you to stomp it to downshift to accelerate. OVTune is a bit more complex than that. He's modified the shifting behavior based on many complex variables regarding engine load/speed/torque demands vs. simply on the data point of MPH. Shifting I'd say is really only one piece of the puzzle though. the tune changes throttle response significantly so that your gas pedal actually, linearly, delivers fuel/power as well as matches that with a cleaner AFR and tweaks to the VVT (intake / exhaust) that make for a much smoother, more powerful driving vehicle. In addition, you get the option of tunes for different octane levels. Many folks will claim that you are wasting money by putting premium fuel into a vehicle tuned for regular, and there is at least a bit of truth to that - with the tune, he adds advance and changes in ignition so you can actually harvest the extra horses from the higher octanes.

@OVTune is definitely more innovative and advanced than Toyota is with this trucks.

He’s working on correcting this terrible shifting pattern and stock maps.

Meanwhile, Toyota is doing shit like this

That is the ultimate "BROcessory"...adds no capability for 99.9% of buyers, but EVERY buyer goes around with that thing sticking up looking like they are headed for an Amazonian excursion....I bet some dude in the marketing department made a joke "but chicks did the snorkel" and some humorless person in an important position took it literally, and here we are.

If anybody needed any more proof that marketing has completely supplanted engineering as the # 1 decision making department for Toyota (or any other auto manufacturer), there you have it. it's $#%&ing unbelievable that they did a two week tease reveal for that crap...

This is me saying this, not OVtune, but having driven a stock or OVtuned truck, I would wager that the OVtune, if anything, would increase the life of many of parts of the drivetrain. It just runs smoother and a general rule of thumb (though I realize not 100%), that when it comes to mechanical movement, smoother = more longevity.

Sounds good, I’m running a 6 inch lift with 34 inch tires. Does the OVtune have options for this? Where do you order from?

right now, the tune is focused on stock or "mostly stock" trucks. in a prior post, he has indicated that once Cupid is released, he'll start to do more custom stuff for specific mod situations. Whether 6" lift and 34" tires fall in that bucket will be up to the man to answer but from what I've heard on here many folks have commented on how they regained a lot of the power that was lost with larger tires for example with the tune.

Agree... just looks like a noisemaker to me. If the truck were designed more for amphibious adventures (like a counter to the Jeep commercials on the Super Bowl) and they did more waterproofing to make water crossings less taxing on your truck, I would get it. But based on the press release sounds like they did it primarily for looks and secondarily to keep the intake cleaner. I don't live near a desert but I've had my truck in plenty of dirty and muddy situations with crap flying all over my wheel well for long periods. My stock filter was fit as a fiddle every time... I replaced it early b/c i got a deal on another OEM one and figured "why not?" but still didn't have issues...

so they solved a problem 99.99% of owners don't have. meanwhile Mat's working on something else even beyond the tune to bring a weak powertrain to life. At least someone understands the whole supply / demand cycle when it comes to performance and drivability!

What you think is the new product announcement from Mat? Handheld tuner? Tiger blood fuel additives? Overland brocesories? :anonymous:

Guess is, he runs his stock truck on the dyno with his refined new tune to dial it in and get results. Then comes the supercharger he's teased... just a guess though
