I think they do that on purpose sometimes. Just in the hope you won’t notice.

Honestly tho, I feel like the government shouldn’t be placing barriers or restrictions on recreation. Most of us don’t live near the forests we visit and yet are forced out of the way to find a ranger station to find information. If you get there after they close or before they open, gotta wait.

Sorry, I gotta disagree. I like my lakes, rivers and streams teaming with fish and the waters clear. Unregulated lands lead to quickly becoming dumping grounds. Humans suck.

The wildlife molestation charges were dropped.

I was smart enough to take pictures of the open gates and the officer that cited me didn’t show so I got it dismissed. Now my buddy wasn’t so lucky. I don’t remember what his fine was but it was pretty pricey. Plus he got an open container ticket. The ranger followed our tracks and the sounds of our gun shots for miles before he caught up with us. So he was pretty pist.

Man, you got lucky. Guess they can lock you up on the critter charge . Yea, it's definitely worth a 10 min phone call to the rangers.

I’m not saying don’t regulate. I’m saying don’t make it difficult to use them. For example, there is a website but isn’t authoritative for closures-the office is. It’s not unusual for the office to be farther from where you might want to visit. Making you travel well out of your way isn’t necessary. That’s all.

^ This. Very much this! Be responsible in your use of the great outdoors. I hate getting into a campsite only to find some creatans have left all their bullet casings everywhere and trees are riddled with lead. People are getting more aware of trash they leave behind, but the brass and lead have an adverse affect as well. I’m not saying you can’t shoot out in the boonies, but I do advocate responsibility and environmentally friendly practices.
Don’t give the government any more ammunition ( see what I did there...) to take these things away. I’ve been to countries where “off-roading” is illegal. It sucks. Places where camping and outdoor activities are illegal on public land is shitty. Let’s just be reasonable and responsible so the parents don’t take away the toys.

If you need a permit, this won’t always work. However, the number of instances you will need to visit in person are relatively few. I just feel that in today’s modern world, you shouldn’t need to go at all.
