Has anyone had problems off-road running 16" rims? I know they can fit, but I'm mainly wondering if anyone has had trouble with rocks getting in-between the rim and caliper / rotor somehow and destroying things?

I already deal with rocks in the pads / rotor and it seems really likely rocks would get stuck in between the rim and caliper. BUT... I like the 16" rims..

Most will tell you that 16's are the way to go because you can get an extra inch of tire between you and whatever your crawling over. They are better for off roading than 17's.

I cant help with any of your other questions. I dont have experience with those issues.

Plenty of gravel roads on 16" rims. Zero issues. You may get a tiny pebble in the brake pads, which results in squealing. But rim and caliper? Never an issue.

They fit because your OR came with 16" lol. Unless someone put larger on for some reason.

I have 15" on my Xterra, and if I remember I even had to grind down a little bit of the calipers but I've never had any sort of issue like you describe, nor have I ever heard of anyone else having that kind of issue ever.
