Seven Fathoms in the Caymans is pretty damn good. Their rum factory tour is a hoot and a half to go on. Their distiller, Moses, is a hell of a guy.

You need to try both of these, then. I had both in Seychelles and the dark rum was brilliant.

I find the Wet type of Rum to be the best. IMO

I've seen this one in the store a few times, I'll add it to my list of rums I need to try.

All those poor moles. They keep living their lives; but they have nowhere to sit down.

IMG_0041.jpg Best commercial rum I've ever tasted. You can't be a wimp to walk it to the checkout at the liquor store on account of the name, but it is so good. "Mount Gay" silver rum. I'd swear it was pure hearts. So clean.

I work with a Puerto Rican who gets bottles of Bacardi at the club. I'm a Texan and don't drink Bacardi unless it's in a cheap mixed drink that would ruin a good rum.
Flor de Caña is great, especially the 12, 18 and 25 years.

Don Q is sold at my local liquor store... once I'm back home I'll have to pick up a bottle. Which is the best?

For mixing they all seem pretty much the same, but for sipping...
One of my favorites is one that I've only been able to find in Jamaica, Appleton 12. It was $20 on the shelf down there for a 750. I can special order it on the interwebz for $40 a bottle plus shipping, but since I brought two bottles back with me I haven't wanted to yet

My favorites that I can find locally are these two:

They're both "barrel aged under the hot caribbean sun" blah blah, but they definitely pick up some nice complex flavors from the aging process. They're reasonable, too. The Plantation is running around $20-25 and the Bacardi is just under $30, even with the stupid taxes Maine puts on booze.

I plan on bringing a few of the rare bottles back with me from Colombia... ones that aren't sold in the US.

Well, that depends. For mixing I like Don Q Gold, but for sipping I like "Gran Anejo". I haven't tried the "Signature Release" but I'm sure I will!

I've never been a fan of flavored rums (or vodka). I mean, I'll drink it on someone elses dime, but I won't buy them.

Any idea where they source it from? I doubt they produce their own.

I would recommend Captain Morgan Black. You will not regret it. It nothing like the regular Captain.

I won't touch regular Captain unless it's literally the only rum in the building.
