Exactly. If I were ordering one today I'd order an OEM. At least I'm able to sell the non functional garnish.

Where can you get an OEM Pro grille anywhere for less than $250? All the ones that are $120-$170 on ebay are not Factory OEM. They are OEM style. They may be from the USA, but they are full of shit if they say they are OEM factory. Why is Toyota and even CaliRaised selling them at $250+ if that's the case?

The only difference between factory OEM and OEM style is the number of clips that hold that insert to the surrounding bezel and i think the letters. That's it.

I noticed this as well. I think they know people would rather go with them than wait on the Chinese shipments going through customs with such a big delivery window. When I got mine last month it was $135 and the ones out of China were starting at $115. I gladly paid the $20 to get in in 5 days but they're obviously catching on that people will pay so they're up to $160. Still beats the $450 from a dealership!

No broken tabs, you don't have to install a box of letters, you don't have to wait from 2 weeks to a month to get it and when it does come it may be cheap led bulbs or a box of Chinese condoms.

Has this been verified? From what I have seen from other people posting pictures is that the 2018 grille (PT228-35180) comes with a hole where the plastic honeycomb or garnish (53141-35060) would go. That means you would either need to acquire the plastic honeycomb piece from somewhere, buy the garnish or run it with a hole in that spot. Sounds like yall are saying the 2018 grille comes with the plastic honeycomb piece and nothing would be necessary if you have a 2016-2017. Just want to make sure which scenario is true before I order anything.

    One I found https://toyotaparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-trd-pro-grill-tacoma-pt22835180

You can search Google for PT228-35180 and find other sources or check out the Camelback Toyota sub forum and see what Gunny will sell it to you for. From your profile info you appear to have a 2017, so you should see if anyone replies back to my question above on whether or not the garnish will be needed or not. If it is needed then it will be another $50 on top of the grille price. Or if you can acquire the plastic honeycomb piece, possibly less.

I already have one. When I purchased it, nobody was selling under 250. All these ebay sales must have forced them to lower the price.

Yea, I am with you about the garnish. I am considering going with non-OEM for this reason on my 2017. It isn't a huge deal to me, but for the price of a 2018 grille + garnish you can buy a non-OEM and have the plastic honeycomb piece instead of the glass front OEM garnish.

2017 does not need it. 2018 plan on paying $50 or so for the garnish..

    Basically:
    OEM from dealership = $400+
    OEM from Gunny = $300ish
Ebay from pro grill = $145 but climbing to $160ish (ships from LA in 5 days, 2 pieces)
Ebay from areyoushop = $115-$120 (big delivery window coming from China and a few reports of broken tabs but all agree worth saving $300)

If it helps any, my OEM cheese grater chrome felt as flimsy if not cheaper than the non-OEM pro I got mailed to me. I pulled the chrome grill off and it bounced across my garage and moved when the wind blew.

What’s holding me back is I don’t think I’ve seen a definitive answer to this question. Oddly no one who’s bought the 2018 OEM pipes up either.

But does the 2018 specific grille come with the honeycomb insert? Seems that it does not, hence the reason 2016-17 part numbers are not the same as the 2018. Does anyone know if the 16-17 grilles have the removable section? I know the Chinese ones do.

Thanks for the reply, your picture shows the 2018 garnish, which I understand is not specifically needed for the 16-17 as we do not have the sensor (unless you are trying to fill a hole). What I am questioning is whether or not there is an empty spot in the OEM PT228-35180 pro grille where the garnish would go. If there is a hole, then us 16-17 owners would either need to acquire the plastic honeycomb piece, buy the radiator garnish or run with a hole in the grille. From your post history in this thread it seems you bought a non-OEM pro grille, which it seems all come with the plastic honeycomb piece. It really doesn't make much difference to me whether I end up with OEM or non-OEM, but for the price of PT228-35180 I would likely go with that if it doesn't have a hole where the garnish piece goes. Thanks again for the reply and thanks for the info you have provided so far, seems you have done a lot of experimenting with different grilles and all that info is helpful.

Why would someone with a 2017 buy the 2018 grille?
