I have a 17 TRD OF I picked up last march, IDK how long its been going on but I noticed last week some water running in while driving in the rain, I thought it was just I had not fully closed the rear window and then today I noticed the rear seat was wet and the head liner was drooping on the rear drivers side, along with some water stains, so I pored a gallon of water out on the roof and sure enough it rains in the truck, Im so pissed at how much damage has been done, my local dealership sucks and Im worried there going to try and say im out of warranty( 27k miles) or only fix the seal not repair the damaged headliner. Shes less then a rear old!

Wow that sucks, sure hope you find a dealer that does not give you a hard time, you might wanna overstep the dealers and open a case with Toyota.

Thanks man me too, I go in tomorrow but I have 0 faith in them, I try and never use them but the next one is 40 miles away.

Ill look in to opening a case with Toyota, not sure how to but id say its on here somewhere. Im just worried that headliner is beyond repair, its super soft and a good inch lower then the other side, id worry its going to get all moldy.

Yea that sucks...somehow I found mine early as my damage wasnt really all that bad. If the dealership won't help you call toyota customer service.

Toyota knows of the defect in the 3rd brake light

Thanks oscolivar1, You would think Toyota would issue a service bulletin, I'v heard of the other "know" issues but this one snuck up on me. Problem is it all was raining here in North AL, we get rain all the damn time, prob why its so bad.

Yep. I looked at used white trd OR dcSB 2016 tacoma in Oshkosh. Was a monsoon the night before I got there. Looked behind rear seat driver side to check out storage and the plastic storage area had a puddle. Ceiling was wet also. I also read about the cab 3rd brake light seals being bad. Looked at another used 2016 or dcsb in Green Bay and of course took it through the car wash. That one leaked the same way.
Ended up buying a 2017 trd of dcsb. Took it through several car washes before buying. No leaks now after 6 car washes.
Toyota must know about this by now. If you buy used take it through a high pressure touchless car wash.

They know about it and have had to buy a few trucks back. 20k on mine and no leaks.

Interesting. Good to know! Do you know if all leaks linked to 3rd brake light?

The 3rd Brake Light on our Trucks is kind of a strange design as it's attached from the inside. Maybe they were trying to help the dealers make money on labor to change bulbs.

Oh thats wild, that would be a bummer but I was wondering how much damage has been taking place if headliner is like that, like has it affected the airbags bag there.

well, they said they will replace the rear brake light on Tuesday and till then they have taped it up, so I can drive it around, the lady would not give me any info on what they are going to do about the headliner, she suggested fans and a heat lamp to dry it out but theres no way that headliner is sagging and she also said the water wont effect airbag or anything but im 100% sure they have no idea wtf is going on, they just kept saying Tuesday will know more.

I don't think that service lady has any idea what is going on, they won't know what needs replaced until they start tearing it apart, that headliner is probably going to fall apart during disassembly.

Damn dude, close your doors when you have a sprinkler going! That is a whole lot of water. Straight to the dealer I would go and demand that they take care of this shit! That is a big problem with mold. Drop the F bomb a few times and they will most likely take care of it.
