Yes you do need to hold the button for 5 seconds. You can do it before or after you turn your ignition off tho. Honestly I prefer this because inuse to have a blackvue and I hated unplugging it and while yes the dr590 does announce when it turns on, after you hear it hundreds of times it's easy to tune out. I have forgotten to plug it back in before which is why i prefer the thinkwares power button. It might be a hassle but I know it's always turning back on next time and I don't have to worry about forgetting.

With blackvue and the power magic pro the power magic pro does have an off switch. While it's switched off it will still turn back on when your ignition is back on but will turn off when your ignition is off unless you flip the switch again. I use a cellink battery b tho which has no switch so with blackvue I lost all ability to switch it off besides unplugging it.

I do prefer the micro USB cable for thinkwares rear cams especially because you can use any micro USB extension which I have done, but I'll admit the blackvue coaxial is super thin and easy to install.

Per member Tiedie it is a 2.5mm TRRS, not mini coax now, and indeed looking at the pics it is so, so this is a big improvement.

Are you saying you can turn it off (by holding 5 sec) anytime? Even if it is already in parking mode. That may not be too onerous, but still annoying.

Good point about use with the Cellink, I may spring for it in one of my cars, and then it would be an issue.

$50 for shipping!? Sorry man, the free shipping must only be for continental US.

I've been busy but I'm on my way home now so I'll be around to answer more questions in about 45 min.

which i turn my truck off it takes maybe 10 or 15 seconds before it switches to parking mode. not sure if this was designed this way on purpose but I like it because I know I have time to get out of my truck and if i happen to slam the door too hard i know i wont get a false impact detection. i am pretty good and not slamming the door hard enough to set the impact detection off but my GF typically sets it off slamming the door. but anyways, even if i turn it after turning my truck off i usually have plenty of time before it switches to parking mode. i usually turn it off before shutting my truck off tho.

honestly maybe im just going over board, maybe i would be just fine without doing it, but my commute to work is only 10 min, about 4 or 5 miles so many days I don't drive enough to charge up my cellink b and its expansion. over many months with so many short trips i may end up with a low battery if i constantly ran parking mode even while i was at home.

i really really want thinkware or blackvue to use geofencing to tell it to disable parking mode when I am home. thinkware cloud is pretty weak as it doesnt have parking mode notification but it does have some geofencing features so I would love to see it automatically disable parking mode when I am parked in my garage. hopefully that comes in the near future but it probably wouldn't be a firmware update, knowing these companies they will hold these features for future models.

Geofencing for parking mode would be one way to address that. A wifi network within range could be another way of disabling it.

And, yeah that's my issue, too. I won't use Celllink in daily driven car, because my commute is too short. I may put it in our road-trip car, however.

Hey got good news, I appreciate everyone who paid the deposit to assure this went ok. You will for sure get your deposit refunded. Blackboxmycar said it was going very strong and they felt I can make the coupon code public and it might even get extended beyond this weekend. Either way, if anyone wants to order (again, minimum order is $250.00) the coupon code for 10% off your entire order is "TACOMAWORLD". I am not sure how long it will be active, they just said they are considering extending it beyond this weekend.

now that i think of it, i think the DR590 uses that 2.5mm plug, but the DR750S still uses the mini coax. At least thats what it was when I reviewed it.

Anyone have seen the external Blackvue GPS for DR590? I wonder how long is the cable. I am finding picture with a shorty cable and pretty long one... I guess need to ask blackboxmycar.

when i reviewed the dr490-2ch which is basically the dr590 it came with the longer cable. it looked exactly like the picture of the longer one. Seems odd to me that they use the picture of the short cable on blackboxmycar.

the box also shows the all black one, not the short one with white letters, never seen that one before.

Know anyone in the lower 48? Have it shipped down here for free, then send it over USPS Priority.

Yeah I do in Nevada. 1 or 2 hours of someone's time is precious so I ate the cost. One of the issues I have living in Hawaii but that's extreme first world problems...hehe

Good on you. I am willing also, so any future purchased for Hawaii contact me or the poster right above if interested and we will get you taken care of.

Edit to include Alaska if there is a shipping charge for there.

I never considered this. This group buy was pretty successful in the future I might see if I can offer it if it really is cheaper to have someone in the US receive it and ship it from here.

@USDashCamera How important is using a mlc sd cards for dashcam purposes? It seems that 64gb cards in mlc are twice the price of 128gb tlc cards. Thanks in advance!

Tbh I haven't heard anyone mention mlc vs tlc cards I've always just gone based on class and avoided SanDisk. SanDisk has been known to have issues with dash cams unless you buy their high endurance cards which are pricey. Transcend seem to have no issues same with Samsung. Its mostly important that you use a class 10 card. I use this card and have no issues:

@USDashCamera What’s the purpose of the CPL filter on the 750?
