Debadging

Excuse my ignorance. I'm new here. Remember when you were new?


Anyway. What's everyone's favorite debadging method? Zippo and dental floss? Heat gun and fishing line? Hot water and your teeth?


I plan on doing this tomorrow and I figured I would find out if anyone has some secret method that's quicker, easier and better than the rest.

You guys would be the people to ask, right?

 

in my opinion, park it in the sun for a couple hours and use fishing line and some goo gone once their off. I'm nervous about using a heat gun that close to finish paint... and dentists are expensive

I used a hair dryer and floss. Then followed with goo gone, then car polish, then wax. (Make sure to clean the paint after using goo gone. I don't think it is good to leave it on the paint)

Also, if you have fishing line it will probably work better than floss, since it is stronger and floss has a tendency to break, so you will have to use a lot of it.

Yes,Sir.That's What I did. Come right off. I used Adhesive remover,after that and then give it a good wax job!

 

Everything you need. This is what I used. I washed the goo gone off and waxed the areas after.

I think I will take all of them off... except maybe the Taco's on the sides. What do you think? What should stay, what should go?

 

X2. But remember, if you are planning to paint the badges, you need to mark off where the old ones were.

 

Take them all off. I debadged my tailgate and not my doors, and i feel that it looks weird. The door badges are coming off ASAP...

 

Mine was the same way. After i peeled the tape off with my thumb, I had to use goo gone to get the remaining residue.

 

that is how i did it! Eazy but hard to get the glue off just alittle hard work!

 

+1 I learned using your thumb was a MUCH better way to go late in the process. Took a LOT less work with a better final product.

Hey thanks. That's wicked. I'm going to save that on my computer. Good to have, for sure.

 

I took a steak knife one night when I was drunk. Was able to slide the blade under the emblems with the wooden handle on the paint. To my great surprise the next morning, it worked well, no scratches and no emblems

 

Okay. So now I have them off, and it went well. However I want to paint a few of them matte black and put them back on.

Who has done this? What should I use to adhere them? That's my main problem, I have no means of adherance.

I haven't even started painting yet so I'm in no rush, but I would like to get them on by tomorrow.

 

I did the same thing: took 'em off and painted them black...but the more I look at the truck, the more I like it w/o badges...if I have to put badges on, I'd get TRD ones from ebay..I think they'll look sick...Im waiting for my tac badges to dry and probably use double sided tape to see waht it would like w/ them on before I make the final decision. Please post pics when you're done.

 

All off, makes it easier to wax.

 

Okay. I'm going to go downstairs, warm up my mind and body with a couple of Rock Band songs, and then I'll get to work. I'll bring my camera and show you guys what's up by dinner time tonight.
