Needle bearing issues on 3rd gens

I’ve seen a couple posts, but is the needle bearing issue on almost all third gens that have been lifted ? I’m looking to do around a 2.25in lift in the front and 1.5inch lift in the rear. Wondering if I’d need the ECGs bushing as well because of this.

 

Damn that sucks you don’t really know if you need it or not till you’ve done it. I wonder what Toyota does when they lift it from dealerships.

 

Will it be covered under warranty since lift voids certain parts of the suspension warranty?

 

We do ECGS on 2.5+ inch lifts. Customers complain otherwise.

 

if you do the lift then do the diff bearing.

 

I might just call the dealership tomorrow and ask what they do when they lift theirs. They usually have at least one lifted Tacoma on the lot. Can’t imagine they’d sell them knowing this is an issue in lifted Tacoma’s. But then again who knows. I just don’t wanna void my warranty if I don’t have too since I have the extended verified pre-owned warranty or whatever

 

you won't "blanket" void the warrenty, Moss-Magnussen Act. They would have to prove the failure was a result of the lift.

 

Still an issue on 2020 models?

You guys better read this. This “Magnussen Act “ people are referring is actually a paper tiger . Sounds very similar what my brother went through with a subaru back in the 90's that cost him over $15k with his original lawyer quitting. He eventually got some satisfaction, but in the end he felt a total loser.

 

Warranty issues aside you will most likely need it. If I were you I'd do it as a bit of insurance. If you're having a shop do the lift then definitely have them do it while they're doing the rest of the lift since they'll be halfway in there already. If you do it yourself it's up to you if you wanna do it at the same time or wait and see what happens. This is what I did and ended up having a local shop do the bearing a couple weeks after I did my lift. And it won't kill your whole warranty as there's not many parts that would go bad because of the bushing. Unless by some odd twist of date it grenades and sends shrapnel all in the diff I suppose.
