yup. 3 yrs ago my entire neighborhood and a rodent infestation of rats that were coming off Mt. Diablo looking for water. Last year My wife brought home 3 cats and they have completely wiped them out. I’m am NOT a cat person but they worked.

Edit go around your house and make sure Everything is sealed off and set traps

Unfortunately can’t do cats due to allergies, but I closed off both spots I saw that were open. Going to try the bucket trap and some other small ones. You can hear them trying to get out at the grates under the house, super creepy in the middle of the night.

Yeah they will get into the tiniest openings. I spent 2 weeks going around my house sealing everything. Don’t just look on the ground but also check your eves. There are vent hole under the eves.

Yes (it’s a major problem in Santa Cruz). Exclusion is the only solution. At our last house I did it myself with sheet metal and mesh, but here I hired someone. Any gap more than 1/4” is a problem. Every single attic, crawl space and soffit vent needs to be screened with 1/4” mesh, plus every entrance and exit for piping and wiring needs to be sealed. And not just “Great Stuff” foam, gotta use metal or concrete. Poison just delays the inevitable return of the pests. And you end up with dead rats stinking in your attic, not to mention risk to pets and birds. If your house is sealed up tighter than your neighbor’s, they’ll move on.

Sticky traps. Can pick them up at Home Depot. Place at any entry point. But DO NOT let them touch anything you don’t mind losing. IE: skin, hair, dick.

They can slip through cracks up to 1/4” depending on size. Look for grease marks on siding or around where you think they’re entering from. That’s their greasy nasty hair. Also check for any trees with branches leading to your roof. They’re smart and use that for access.

Wife is a pest tech if you were closer I’d give you glue boards.

Don’t set the traps. Bait them. Let them learn they are safe places to feed. One day bait the traps and not set them. Next day, Re bait them and set them. See how many go “snap” at 3:10am... Our family owns a small structural commercial pest control company. Cats are great. Having a sealed home is better. Remember, all they want is a safe place to eat and make babies. Don’t provide that for them and they look elsewhere. Oh, and get rid of ivy plants if ya got em. Ivy usually attracts snails and rats love snails.

Someone else said don’t use foam. There is a special foam that has metal fibers that rodents won’t chew through. It’s about $60 a can, but it works.

    Exclusion, exclusion and more exclusion.

    Lol! I want!

The first 6 months my cats were leaving me treasures out side the sliding doors on a daily basis. I’m not exaggerating when I say I must’ve gotten rid of at least 75-100 dead rats they brought back. Haven’t seen a sign of a rat or mouse in over a year now.

That means your are the king of the pride. I am allergic to cats. Maybe I’ll get another dog. A rat terrier perhaps?

Hahaha, we once had a GIANT sewer rat come out of our toilet one night when my brother was taking a bath. He was 11 at the time and freaked out. Ended up getting into our room and we tried bombing it, traps and sticky traps. Had to have exterminators spend 45 minutes tearing apart the room to get it. The came out with a sticky trap and there was this giant rat outline of hair on it. Fucker got stuck and ripped himself off. Acting like he’s Master Splinter or something.

You haven’t seen a big rat until you’ve been to a scrap yard at night. They are the size of rabbits we call them scrap rats.
