It'll be money well spent. Any time I help someone and install their lift, I always recommend doing UCA's. A lot of people on this forum will have you believe that you'll be just fine with the stock ones, and I guess technically, that's "kind of" true... That is if you are driving on completely smooth roads with no bumps. Or if you just don't care about that thud that you get going over any bump. But, if you want te truck to still perform like a truck and have the ability to comfortably take it off-road, it's best to take the hit financially and get the UCA's.

Lastly, no issues with that link you sent being for 2015? I have a 2016 and the truck in the original post was at least a 16.

Nope none at all. Still the same chassis and suspension platform.

Hey guys, new here on on the site, also fairly new to learning about lifts for my 2017 trd sport taco. Got a few questions here, sorry ahead of time for being so rookie.
From the little bit of digging I have done, I've heard that leveling kits and generally body lifts are not so good for the ride and are very stiff? vs a full suspension lift. I'm still learning the terms and items associated with a suspension lift and what I would need to do so. I will be on pavement 85% of the time and live in Vancouver, BC, so there will definitely be camping roads and rougher logging roads ill have to tackle in the summer. With that being said I'm looking for something that'll give me a 3" lift, be able to tackle rougher gravel/logging/muddy trails but also not go as far as bushwhacking and full offroading. Currently leaning more towards a suspension lift, and am willing to spend a bit more money for quality gear. Any suggestions and help would be much appreciated!

    THX!

Im new to this site, and just purchased my first tacoma ever. I have a 2017 trd pro and i am wanting to lift it a couple of inches without having to change out the fox suspension that comes with the pro. I am planning to install a set of icons 17X9 with 33" tires. Is that possible without having to change out the suspension and without it having a negative effect on it. Work pipelines and offroad almost every day. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I think you wasted your money by buying a Pro because the Fox suspension was not meant to be modified from the 2 inches it gives you. If your looking for a total of 4 inches of lift you will most likely have to go with a different set up. Modifying the Fox will not give you a good ride. $.02

Lift, wheels, tires, sliders, and skidplates...so far.
I've read and read and read but I give up....I'm just going to ask.

I have a 17 Long Bed Sport 4x4 and want to do a full suspension kit.

The one I am leaning towards is the ICON Stage 3 with Tubular UCA.

    My questions are:

    1. Do I need (or should I) to add a Front Differential Drop Kit? Or does the ICON kit come with one like the ToyTec kits do?

    2. Do I need (or should I) to add a Front Swaybar Relocation Kit?

    3. Do I need to add some kind of upgraded rear bump stops with the AAL from ICON? Or is that included?

    4. Do I need to buy the extended front/rear brake lines for such a small lift (less than 3")?

    5. Can I run the stock (17") wheels with this kit installed while I pull extra shifts working the corner down at hotel drive saving up the small fortune it will take to buy the wheels / tires I want?

    1. No need for diff drop with a 2.5” lift. Try not to max your lift at the 2.75” unless you really need clearance for tires. It’ll ride stiffer with too much preload.

    2. I believe you do have to get one if you want to keep your sway bar but not sure how Icons packages are setup. Kings shocks has the relocation built in the reservoir bracket on mine.

    3. Bumpstop not included. You only need to upgrade if you feel you will bottom out a lot more from off-roading. Not necessarily needed but is a nice upgrade to cushion the bottoming out especially if you plan on carrying extra weight.

    4. You do not need extended brake lines with this lift. The rear is only going up 1.5” with this kit.

    5. Yes you can run with what you have but it might look like you skipped leg day. Maybe just put everything on but not the add a leaf for now and only adjust the front coilovers to level out and when your ready for wheels/tires, crank it up and install the leaf.

    Good luck!!

PS I might be a little bias since I have Kings but for the almost same price of the stage 3 Icon tubular, you can get Kings 2.5s with reservoirs all around no adjusters with some Total Chaos UCAs. Icon Stage 3 comes with no front external reservoirs and the rears are only 2.0’s. Then maybe buy add a leaf separately which is only about $200. Just saying unless you’re getting a ridiculous deal on the Icons this option is way better for the money.

To be honest, it is my first tacoma and didnt know much about them. I wanted one with leather seats and the only ones that offer it i believe are the limited and pro’s. I hate all the chrome the limited has and really liked the cement grey. Didnt really know much about the suspension it came with. So in other words im screwed and have to replace the whole suspension?!

For what it’s worth, upgrading your suspension is a good thing and with the pro, at least you get to recoup the cost unlike the other models where the stock suspension is now scrap.

Thanks for the feedback. I change my mind by the hour as far as which kit to get. One minute I convince myself that I will be fine buying the kit at Kmart for $58 and the next minute I’m convinced that I “need” the King kit for $58,000

I say go big if you plan on keeping your truck for a long time. Any of the vendors on here will probably give you a great deal. Since we are on the toytec thread, maybe you should hit them up and see since they do carry Kings.

I’ve been reading into getting the Toytec 2.5’s with resi’s (in the rear) total chaos UCA and darkar pack for th extra load. I usually tow a 22ft boat on the weekends about 60mi round trip. Light to mod off roading but 70-80% paved highway. What kind of adjustment needs to be done to make the total chaos work with the toytec 2.5’s? Also should I just save some cash and go with bilstein 5112/6150 combo ? Thanks I’m advance.

I don’t think you need to adjust anything on the UCAs with a lift. The alignment tech will take care of that. I can’t speak for the toytec 2.5, but the 6112/5160 with Dakar’s is a really nice setup. That’s what I’m running and I’m really happy with it. If both front C/O are 2.5” diameter, they will probably be comparable in overall performance, honestly. I’d go with whichever you find a good deal on. I had a toytec C/O lift on my 2015 and it rode great. My only complaint was the rear add a leaf. Never again. Also, I have the medium leaf pack, you may want to consider the heavy one if you tow that often.

Toytec lift, White Knuckle sliders, RCI Armour, ECGS (Nitro Gears), Victory 4x4 Striker Front bumper, Smittybilt X20 10K winch, Dobinson snorkel, Spidertrax 1.25 spacers and 255 R80 16 BF Goodrich KM2s.
I have the toytech performance 2.5 kit and upgraded to the reservoir shocks (front) and the performance spring pack in the rear. It does ride firmer than stock. If you plan on going with larger tires at any time I would replace the UCA's if not stay with the stocks. I went with the SPC UCA's they have a large amount of adjustment for the lost caster. Good. Luck!

There will be no need to adjust anything on to make the Chaos arms work with that kit.

Shoot me a pm and we can chat about the different options and figure out what is best for you!
