So purchased my 17 Tacoma from dealer, 3227 miles, noticed this vibration. Here's the question:

Truck has a 2.5inch lift installed by previous owner, Toyota sold me this truck "certified" with warranty.

Will the fact that it is lifted be cause for rejection of performing the TSB? Did the lift actually cause the issue because it changed the driveline angle?

Thanks in advance. Forgive me for what may be ignorance on this matter.

Is it a pulsing vibration? almost like your driving over rumble strips? Is it a 4x4 and if so does the vibration go away when 4x4 is engaged?

I would not say it is that severe. Its just a vibration through the floor board. Rumble strip is much more severe than what I am feeling. It is hard to tell if it goes away in 4WD but I really don't think it does no. roads are kind of bumpy and its hard to tell if its the road feel through the tires or if its the truck but it always happens on decal below 30mph or so.

Yes describing it as rumble strip may be a bit harsh but it's more about the rhythmic vibration.
Try to find a straight smooth stretch of asphalt and engage 4 wheel drive, see if it goes away. If it doesnt you may need to do something like a Driveline drop or even potentially have a bad tire.
If it is indeed a needle bearing see if the dealer will replace it, it may or may not come back without the permanent fix.
    Food luck

I have the same exact issue, just bought a 2017 SR5 with 14K form a dealer and started to notice it a week or so after buying the vehicle when my OCD picked it up! It's at the dealer and there is a TSB that acknowledges the rumble on deceleration under 30mph... they are changing my leaf springs out today. Not super hopeful that it will be fixed , but I will let you know!

It’s due to a weak main leaf spring that deflects under acceleration and deceleration also known as axle wrap. This causes the pinion angle to point up or down in turn slightly binding the rear u joints. It’s a known problem and Toyota has a fix for the 16’s and 17’s to install a revised full leaf pack. 2018 has the same problem but no fix for it yet as per toyota field engineers.

Cool, thanks for the information! I'll let you know if it fixes the issue after I pick it up tonight and give her a test ride! BTW, they also are installing a steering damper.. not sure if that is also supposed to help with the vibrations?

So Off Road owners are still out of luck unless you a) find a compassionate dealer or b) open a case with Toyota? Said another way, the TSB still only applies if not OR?

Got the TSB applied with Toyota.. new leaf springs and steering damper. I think it's about 80% fixed.. I still feel some vibration at 20mph on decal. Sucks, but I feel like it's something I am just going to have to live with!

Definitely a problem with my ‘18. Any word on an updated TSB to include 18s?

Unfortunately, if they have the fix, getting them to apply it is too much to ask (apparently). Fayetteville, AR.

I have the same problem on my 18 purchased 2 weeks ago. I am going to take it in as a known problem and they will have to fix it. TSB or not it is a problem in mine.

There is no fix, all they did was replace the rear springs with an identical part for "customer satisfaction" and it actually made the condition slightly worse.

That's weird. It is the front end not a rear problem

I've got the problem unloaded, but with light firewood or towing and it's gone. Dealer says they measured the axle angles and it's "within spec". Right.

I've been following Hodakaguy's build thread for some time. He reports HERE (post #64, great pics) that, in his case, everything was fine stock. But adding a lift caused "a vibration/shudder each time I pass through 20 MPH".

Sound familiar? Adding a shim fixed his problem. The question is, how does his experience relate to stock trucks without lifts or the other mods done? I don't believe he indicates exactly what procedure and tools he used to determine what shim he needed. If we can figure that out, I think we will have the solution to our problem at hand.

I know in a few months, when I work on my suspension, I'll be learning more about measuring and dealing with these angles. He seems very helpful, so I'll probably hit him up then.

    ---------------
    * Probably a good idea for most anybody considering modding or looking for helpful ideas and how to do the work in a professional manner. Creative work done and document well. As good as any build thread here.

So I just installed an OME Dakar kit (medium) and am not getting a shudder/vibe on decel from 30mph to stop. Only does it in D. If I shift to N, its smooth. Drive shaft spacer installed. I never had this issue before and had a 1.5" AAL installed. Any ideas?>

I was still trying to identify the vibration, and if I drive exactly 20 mph and maintain it, it vibrates constantly.
