Illegally parked truck is gone now.

Next day truck has not reappeared. I think the guy was parking it there overnight. Hopefully the responding officer was having a bad day so he got something to remember.

    What?

The lead vehicle should enter the intersection to turn left when there is no advanced green arrow. How the hell do you expect traffic to flow smoothly if this never happens?

Yeah, he’s right. It’s called gridlocking. Technically you aren’t allowed to enter the intersection unless there is a clear path for you to make the turn. I’ve rarely seen it ticketed but it’s easy probable cause to stop a vehicle.

uh wait till its clear to make the full turn?

i find it irritating people do it, especially when having to wait for them to get out of the damn intersection after the light is red. to each their own

If they do it right and are paying attention. You should not have to wait for them to clear the intersection when their light goes red. Most lights have a delay when one direction goes red and the other goes green.
Are you going before your light is greeno_O

no. just always get the people who sit there making sure traffic stops on the other side until the light turns green. its annoying and has been pointed out technically illegal. i digress though that it isnt asshole parking which this thread is about

If everyone followed a majority of traffic laws traffic flows smoothly and there would be almost no wrecks. In the real world a car blocks the intersection while his light is green, light turns red and he's still there, light turns green for intersecting traffic and the guy finally clears which has now caused a delay for the other direction. So now a car going the other direction does the same thing because he would have legally made the turn if not for the previous delay and now he is causing another delay and around and around you go.

Or someone decides they aren't going to make the light so the punch it, guy blocking the intersection decides he HAS to turn because he's blocking the intersection and 2 vehicles attempt to occupy the same space at the same time and now everyone is delayed.

I've worked a billion wrecks, haven't seen one yet that wasn't 100% avoidable either by driving within the law or by using a teeny tiny bit of common sense. It only takes 1 side to ruin the others day.

What about those intersections with no protected left turn during a high volume time? Should they just wait the two hours it takes for traffic to clear?

they should go when a chance arrives, not sit in the middle of the intersection

or pick a different street to turn on, there's always more than one.

but like mentioned before, during heavy traffic this is rarely enforced or frowned upon. just when you get two morons opposite each other doing the same thing does this get dicey

I need to go to the Walmart parking lot and help get this forum back on topic. Left hand turns are the worst, fact. Be safe out there. Take pics of jacknut park jobs.

I have never heard that term before.

Everywhere I've ever driven has always allowed the first left turning vehicle to enter the intersection on an unprotected green and to then finish their turn on a yellow and even red light to get the F out of the intersection.

The main cause for delaying the other traffic lanes from going is because of idiots that decide they can glue themselves to the bumper of the car in front of them and proceed through the yellow, and then red lights. Causing the person waiting to turn left to HAVE to wait for the intersection to clear before they can complete their turn. Yellow means stop (unless unsafe to do so).

I will concede that this is all relative to the local jurisdictions. But I've always been under the impression that it's the norm, not the exception.

I do that shit. Tired of fat fucks and careless people throwing their doors open into vehicles. No respect at all. Lucky @23k miles, I only got hit once. Lucky the door was repaired due to a dumpster slamming into it so the door ding is gone now but I see this shit to often. I park far from people and if I do park close, I go to one side or another like the same way he/she did.

And whats wrong with this? No one is allowed looking at the parking to park left of him/her anyhow. Id want space between those vehicles as well. Imagine if it was within the lines. Sure the guy would push his/her door into the side of it... I see nothing wrong here.

I think it’s a great park job. H1 driver does not want door ding.

Here's your local law saying you can't do that

    Sec. 98-10. - Blocking intersections.

No operator of a vehicle shall enter an intersection or a marked crosswalk unless there is sufficient space beyond such intersection or crosswalk in the direction in which such vehicle is proceeding to accommodate the vehicle without obstructing the passage of other vehicles or pedestrians, notwithstanding any traffic control signal indication to proceed.

    (Code 1978, § 13-15)

That actually doesn't mean that a left turn on an unprotected light is illegal. It just means "don't block the box"
