I did actually buy a '17 OR AC, cost more than the '99 + the repair costs for sure, but I guess at least I have a warranty now for a while.
I would probably keep the '99 if it wasn't 2wd. I'm just ready to go off road a little bit and don't want to deal with two vehicles right now.

Seats, they are uncomfortable as Hades. I never knew that a car manufactaurer in the U.S. could offer a flimsier, less supportive seat.

A lot of items in your last are maintenance items, not supposed to live for the life of the vehicle. In fact, half of your list are maintenance items. The TPS sensor in my Taco gave out at 141K miles, and it cost less than $40 to replace, with an Ebay bought factory part. Radiator made out of plastic, as the facotry ones have a shelf life of about 10K miles, so same. I too had to replace the steering rack, as the tie -rods were seized, and I could not get a good alignment. Even with labor, that was about $400, which is CHEAP compared to most cars.

Dude, it's a 1999, it just seems that yours was more neglected prior to your ownership, than most. I bet you have not had to replace any of those parts yet!

The door handle design on 1st gens is shitty, mine broke and I replaced it last night but what a pain in the ass that was...you need the world's tiniest fingers/hands to do that job easily.

Word of advice...open your handles as close to the lock as you can; if you open them from the middle (like I usually did) or to the other side of the handle, it puts a ton of stress on the plastic behind it and it will eventually break/snap. The mechanism that opens the door is located right behind the lock. If you do it slowly, you can feel the difference in how easily it engages if you open it right next to the lock as opposed to further away from it.

Mine also just broke....it got less and less of a "pop" when it opened until the other day it just broke inside... I thought maybe one of the plastic pieces just popped off and the arm fell out but nope the plastic piece that pushes down the arm broke...ordered a new one to put in....the bolts will be easy to take out but looks like putting them back in will be annoying...

The mechanism that opens the door is such a small piece of plastic that its a wonder it made it this far... if everything wasn't so cheap nowadays and they made that with metal it would never break...

I tried opening my truck when it was freezing out and the handle snapped right off and was in my hand. Wasn’t even pulling hard either

Most annoying right now is the passenger side door lock/handle. When unlocked: opening the door actually locks it so the door opens a little bit but catches. You have to put the key back in and unlock it again to get the door open. Beyond frustrating.

Yeah, that's what broke mine too...was out in Big Bear a couple weeks ago when they got snow and the handle broke in the morning after it sat overnight in the freezing weather. Cheap Toyota plastic lol

Putting them in was the easy part for me, just took a few minutes...getting them out of that plastic clip was the pain in the ass, lol. Especially the bigger one on the handle itself (the one on the lock cylinder wasn't too bad).

My driver side broke a few years ago, and it was such a pain in the ass to replace it. My passenger side door handle has been broken for a year and a half now, just because I dont want to go through the pain of replacing it. And its not like I ever get into the truck on that side...:anonymous:

I just have to open the door from the inside when people want a ride lol

I don't like how other vehicles try to be as cool as a 1st gen. I mean - come on. What's better than a 1st Gen Tacoma?

Guess I should have said what year I had. My '96 has 2 dinky little cup holders that pull out from the dash. Thats it. I usually carry around more than a styrofoam cup, usually a steel 1 liter bottle, and those cupholders are way too flimsy. I wish I had one like the later 1st gens had by the shifter. I also have a bench seat so no console.
