The shocks are identical to the 5160, otherwise Toyota would not have added the brake line extensions, if it did not provide more travel. Meaning they are longer than the regular offroad billies. So i assume they can handle an extra 1.5 inch.

 

My main concern was corrosion, and it being an entry point for water/salt. One is at the top of the coil, on the other it’s at the bottom. Bottom, not as big of a concern, but trickling in top down worries long term. I thought of attempting a patch of some sorts, but contacted Conicelli Toyota to see what they think. Send me some new coils and I’ll send the others back, or I’ll send the whole kit back if they want. Even considered buying the coils for the Baja kit which are heavier. At $111 each it’ll push the kit’s bargain out of benchmark. The only way I think I’m screwed is if they sell the rest of them by Monday. If not.........there’s still hope! Maybe I’m too finicky. I do know, when I buy something new, I like it to be new.

 

How many coats? Dry time in between?

 

Honestly I think that's a bit overkill. I get your point but my set has chips and I'd venture to think that at least 75-80% of the kits out there have similar chips.

They're going to get chipped up under the truck regardless and you aren't going to see them. If you are concerned hit them with some clearcoat and some Fluid Film.

Who's to say the next set won't be identical? I'm the first person to be overly critical of perfection, but it's going to be a tall order to get a set without chips, if they send a new set at all. What is your time worth to go through the process of shipping everything back, assuming they pay return shipping?

I ordered a set today from my local dealer here in Las Vegas. They are charging me $600 plus sales tax.
This deal is too good to pass up on. I will keep my stock tires and wheels. I'm not sure if I will lift the rear. I guess I will know more after I install the fronts. Thanks to everyone who has posted to make this decision easy.

Care to report back any follow up measurements?
It seemed like most everyone was gaining around 2-2.5" on the Driver's Front and 1.5-2" on the Passenger's Front immediately following installation (my numbers may be incorrect).

I'm curious to hear how much settling is taking place after some miles and alignment?

 

I may or may not align my truck today depending on how busy I am at work, but at the least I’ll measure again and see what I’m at.

 

Would you mind measuring length of the front if you have them handy?

 

Ah, the seldom mentioned Hellwigs. I think the Hellwig helper springs are a good, cheap, easy to install solution as opposed to a new leaf pack. I had a heavy-duty set on the '05 Tundra (very similar leaf pack to a Taco), they made a huge difference handling the trailer tongue weight, topper, gear.

A benefit is the extended length of the rear shocks isn't negated by too much lift, you still get the extra droop. They are also adjustable for stiffness, loosen the nuts for a softer ride, tighten the nuts to stiffen. The rear swaybar was also nice to have.

Probably why they are selling them so cheap.... they are all "seconds" ! I wonder what else is wrong with them....

 

I was reading the installation instructions that was posted on this thread. It says the 2 front shocks come set at different c clip heights. Upper clip for drivers side (for taco lean) and lower for passenger. My question to everyone who has received their order is did yours come that way from the factory?

 

They come preassembled from Toyota
