Lol. The Ranger Raptor will be in a completely different class than the TRD Pro.

The days of Toyota squeaking by with fake hood scoops and makeup are over. Throwing a snorkel on the 2019 was a comical Hail Mary.

Even the fanboys will wake up soon.

They need to actually innovate now.

    Fan boys?

It's hilarious that so many folks on Tacoma World seem to think that Toyota is falling behind in the world of mid sized trucks with their lack of innovation compared to other mid sized trucks on the market (or coming soon), as if the majority of the Tacoma owners out there feel the same as those do here.

Reminder, the Tacoma is not single handedly purchased just by folks that roam the Tacoma World halls looking to bitch moan and complain about all of the "perceived" shortcomings like rear drum brakes, lack of power, MPG, lack front locker, LED this, LED that, power seats, infotainment, etc. Toyota sells their Tacoma trucks to a fairly wide demographic compared to who would purchase the ZR2, or Ranger Raptor without the need to compete a that level. The Pro is mostly a cosmetic thing with some features that can/will allow it to perform slightly better than the other Tacoma models, and it sells just fine as well.

With that in mind, sure the Ranger Raptor may be an exciting option for the thrill seekers, gotta have it alls. However.... I HIGHLY doubt that these "innovations" will make a dent in sales with the average Tacoma buyers. No different than how full sized Raptor sales do over the average half ton truck buyer from any brand.

I agree. This won’t dent sales, just egos.

The masses will keep buying Tacomas. Oh, those silly masses.

Don't get it twisted. Ford understands the American market. The people developing the f150 & Ranger Raptors have a huge presence in the off-road world and are highly respected. They know exactly what the are doing. The f150 and Ranger "Rapor" have almost the same specs. Dont think for second that the Ranger Raptor won't get a nasty 400hp ecoboost V6 down the road. Its what the American market wants. And they will get 50k for it all day.

As right as you are on the possible price tag, neither of the half ton Raptor nor Ranger Raptor will be the reason Ford stays in business. It will be the average F-150 that brings home the most bacon with the much more prevalent average buyer doing the spending.

Same with Toyota, there are way more folks that buy their Tacoma because it fits their needs without the excess, instead of purchasing any other brand with all of these innovations that are aimed towards a much smaller demographic of real off road thrill seekers, and to some extent...the "fat wallet wannabes" that have the money to spend, but have no clue what they are driving and just want to look the part.

Can we assume what would happen if Ford decided to drop the other F-150 and Ranger models from their truck lineup and only sold the Raptor models in favor of "what the American market wants" as you see it?

Motor trend had the new developmental F150 engine that's was tested. 3 cylinder, 6 piston, 2 cranks and no cylinder heads, 270hp with 470tq......the best part was 37mpg combined and not a hybrid :goingcrazy:. Put that in a Ranger.

The fully boxed frame looks beefy AF. And the 285 ko2's are nice. Its an impressive truck, no doubt about that. Would be cooler with the 2.7 or bigger ecoboost v6 though. Or even the 2.3 from the focus RS that makes 350hp/350tq.

Well I like my 98 Ranger. Only problems so far were mice or rats chewing wires and making nest in pressure plate.

I always had good luck buying Toyotas that's why I stick with them, if I had good luck with a Fords I would stick with them but I had an F150 and it was a a complete disaster for reliability I bought into the bull they are selling here about the #1 truck in the USA and they are building them better, then I bought my first Toyota and will never go anywhere else best truck on the road.

Well I have to admit I bought the ranger stripped because I couldn't afford anything else. Modded it quite a bit and will keep it until it dies. I do love my Tacoma. Much better quality and ride .

I think for better or worse, things have changed at Ford in the past 20 years.

Things have changed for almost everyone. I built the Ranger at the time because there were no lifted IFS Rangers around at the time. Wanted to be different. Lots of Tacoma's around but I have the only 3rd gen in my town so far...its nice having mod items readily available for just about any tacoma needs..

That oil filter placement looks awfully inconvenient, though we probably won't get that engine here. I have a feeling the Ranger Raptor here will end up with the same engine as the lower-trim models, simply due to the lower sales volume.

Yes, they make some questionable design choices like putting a plastic oil pan with 1/2-turn plastic drain plug on F150 Ecoboost engines:

^Yep, plastic oil pan, plastic intake manifold, plastic cam covers... with cast-iron block to make sure you don't actually save any weight
