they will be dead or quit driving long before the insurance company will milk them for any accident or tickets they get...a young person in their eyes has many years of paying insurance...

I'm just glad that by the time I am that age, I will have a self-driving vehicle that can get me around. I wont have to be the old fart going 25 in a 45 pissing off the world.

Glad you're ok op, it could have been worst at that speed, anything over 45mph can get a lot worst.
Looks like no air bags went off either.

    Stay safe out there

    Damn. Sorry brother.

My wife and I are very close to an intervention with her father. Taking the keys away from him will be monumentally difficult. But he has become a danger on the road. Every week seems to bring a new scratch, dent, crack or other damage to his vehicle. Plus he's been involved in a couple of wrecks as of late. His brain simply does not process info quickly enough these days. His vision and hearing don't help matters either

Well, to be a little more precise there's a sharp rise for the 74+ group (that's why I said it depends on your definition). That group pays about the same premium as the 25-34 group, forgive the previous typo. It's the 55-74 range that is "safest" and this pays the smallest average premium. But the increase for the 74+ crowd is nothing compared to the drop off when you turn 26.

You could have a totally healthy and competent 75 year old driver and then someone who's 55 with two knee replacements, back problems, and an undiagnosed cataract. Risk is all in the averages. Prior to Taco ownership I was sitting at a red light and got rear ended by a 17 year old who was almost certainly texting. Her pre- and post-accident premiums were both well-deserved.

Umm... I thought the OP said she was going 75 or 80 in a 65?
Maybe she was trying not to piss off the world?

Because she fell asleep at the wheel. If she was awake she most likely would have been going 55 in a 65 causing tons of cars to be backed up and unsafely trying to pass.

Yes she did say that. But she would never admit that she was intentionally going that fast to "not piss off the world".

Dude. The guy was just in a wreck. Don't hijack the thread of something that has no business here. He's OK. That is what matters.

A lot of seniors are on fist fulls of meds too. The obvious illegal drugs are taboo, but unfortunately there are probably millions driving around on legal scrips with a list of possible side effects as long as our Constitution.

This may piss people off, but the elderly should have regular driving test every couple years. After 70 or something. I’m not talking about some half-assed, drive around the block one time test either.

You see stuff on the news all the time about elderly drivers, this one just happened the other day:

    http://amp.wptv.com/2491528888/is-i...s-deadly-crash-sparks-tough-conversation.html

99 year old guy driving the wrong way in Florida killed two teens.

When my grandpa was still living, I’m really surprised he didn’t kill anyone, he was a maniac on the road. They would take his keys from him all the time, but he would have spares stashed.

I get it, they’ve paid their dues, worked hard, been an upstanding citizen etc. No one wants to take an elderly persons driving privileges away, Hell that will be us someday. But you can’t worry about peoples feelings when other peoples safety is on the line. There has to be stricter testing.

OP, sucks about your truck, that was a nice ride. At least you are ok though.

I'm not saying it's intentional. It's just the way it is when you get that age.
