Is this true if you leave the shifter in "4"? (as opposed to leaving it in "D" and relying on the transmission logic to keep in 4th most of the time)
Oh for sure. Acceleration would be too slow otherwise.

The problem is in 4th it still goes into the torque converter as if it would shift to 5th. There’s no lockout or program to fix it.

You need the cone style that comes with aftermarket rims. It can fit through the small opening and actually tighten it.

Something like this (these aren’t for our truck but this is how they look)
Black Spline Drive Tuner Installation Kit (20 Lug Nuts, 4 Valve Stems & 1 Key) ***Hand Torque Only*** 12X1.50 R.H. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00WFC1I3E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_x7ZFAbD02AFXP

These are what I bought for mine after the no name lugs broke in half and had to drill the stud out. Buy the good ones!

Picked up my Pelfreybilt bumper this morning. Wish weather was nice so I could install the thing. The work list gets longer

Even with the correct conical lugnuts, it doesn't look like you'll have enough threads to engage. Better get ET lugnuts to be safe:

Got them mounted on the rack today. Its almost done. Few more mounting points, then awning brackets/holder. Then finish welding, tacked everything until im happy with it

It will keep the honest people from taking them, but wouldn’t take much to break the luggage lock yes. More to keep the nut from ever backing off while driving.

But considering those cost more than the rack, figured I’d try to keep them safe

why not go with a wing nut since you will have something from keeping it from backing out.
