SUA specific springs have a ton of arch, which coupled with the proper shackle length (usually 10" or more) gives the spring the ability to move throughout it's designed range (there's a diagram that explains this better than I'm trying to, I'll have to find it later). 63's really don't have any place in a long travel setup. They barely have a place in crawer/rocks rig in my opinion.

Hi, does anyone have the ECGS needle bearing removal tool that I could borrow. I am ordering the bushing today and am wondering if I will need to get the tool as well, of if someone has it that I could borrow.

    Thank you

Dig through the classifieds. I see them in there pretty often.

Look up an actual LT spring pack. You’ll see how much arch they have. If you put those soa the rear would be monster mud truck tall. SUA allows that same pack to have a reasonable ride hight since it sits low on the axle.

I honestly don’t get they hype with the 63s. My AP pack on a shackle flip performs pretty similarly to the 63s and with a whole lot less work to install.

I think...and I might be wrong...it's that the 63s are a longer leaf pack than the Tacoma packs. This would theoretically allow for more travel while maintaining the same spring rate and ride height. In practice, I'm not really sold on the benefits to using the stock Chevy springs though. If it was an aftermarket pack with more (and thinner) leafs and a military wrap, I think it would work better, but then it would cost way more than just getting a leaf pack for a Tacoma.

    What Tim said, haha.

Don’t care about a ramp in a parking lot. On the trails my truck performs very similarly to y’all with the 63s and I’m still running a 10”shock.

Well, aside from the benefits of more down travel, you're forgetting the main benefit of the 63s. When you're AP packs wear out, it's gonna cost ya >$400 to replace them. When the 63s wear out, you just pick up another set at the salvage yard for about $100 and put'em in. That right there is the best argument I know of for going with the 63s, haha.

Awesome, thanks. Where are you located. I ordered the bushing today, along with some new suspension. Not sure when it will all come in, and when I will have time to install it.

    Lol:rofl:

I’ve yet to see the 63s out perform my set up to point where I’d justify the amount of work it takes to do the swap. On paper they’re better but out on the trails I just don’t see the superiority that’s being claimed.
Up in URE I pretty much kept up with frank and Wes. I was still on stock shackle hangers and I’m open open, they’ve got lockers.

As for the rtt ramp, there’s petty of rigs that out flex others on the ramp but on the trails don’t out perform.

You were out there with us at Red Rock that one time weren't you? I know it's kind of comparing apples to oranges, but in the pic of the OGT going down that one sketchy hill, my passenger rear tire was almost 1' off the ground. When Frank went down it, his passenger rear came of the ground less than an inch...and I think that was before he was running 14" shocks. I know Frank has a longer wheelbase and a wider track (by 5") than I do, so that might have made some difference, but if you keep the tires on the ground, you'll get more traction even if it's only slightly more and that could make the difference between making it over the obstacle and being denied. It seems to me that you'd also get more stability with more tires on the ground as well.

What we do normally here in FL, it probably won't make a huge difference since we have to work hard to find a line that will pull a tire off the ground, but in serious rock crawling places, the extra down travel, IMHO, would make a significant difference.
