As someone else mentioned the newly designed Jeep has the drivers side grab handle, I still think it's part of cost cutting.

There is one to the left on the roof line. Ask me how I know:D
They gave me a 17 frontier as my rental for the diff recall. That thing has hand holds like our truck has cup holders

Could be. I was just tossing out an alternate theory from the position of someone with a lot of experience designing products that are heavily regulated. None of us really know what went into the design process. There are a lot of agendas that need to be met, often conflicting. Marketing/Product team has heavy influence based on consumer research of individual features. Finance has a lot of say, because the company has to make money. Compliance team is involved because the product has to meet all the required regulations. Internal Safety team, manufacturing, Industrial design....etc. all have input and things they want/need from the design of the product. And way way way at the bottom of the list is the poor bastard engineer who has to try to figure out how to deal with all those demands, by exceeded the requested performance specs, coming in under budget and packaging it all nice and pretty for the ID team. Then they have to read about how there isn't a damn grab handle on the driver's side. After all the shit they had to deal with to make a nice truck, it's the $0.30 grad handle that marketing hated, finance wouldn't pay for or compliance/safety wouldn't allow that has customers pissing on their work over. Or maybe it's just the transmission...:D:bananadead:

On the Tundra forum someone figured it out to be apx 120.00 saved per Tundra which turns out to be a nice savings on just that one item. The dealers make over twice that when you order the part itself to reinstall.

How'd they figure that? Seems at lot more expensive than I would have thought. I was thinking about $3 for the injection molded plastic and a few cents for the hardware. Maybe another $0.50 for the will bolt covers. I was thinking it only cost them about $5.

Once I put my roof rack on I may just use something like this...
Around the steel tubing and I can use it to get into the truck....
