    Either hair pins or a clip like so....

    Newer trucks use the hair pins into the pad retaining pin, older trucks use the above.
    The rattle spring was used in 1st gen Runners and trucks, the tacos and 3rd gen runners used a shaped flat spring steel clip, then 2nd gen Tacos went back to the hair pins and wire spring.

    What I found is the one on right side of that picture... goes through the holes on the top and bottom pins... not the one that keeps tension on the pads
