    hello,

I've been looking at an used Tacoma 2009 for sale at a local dealer. I found out it has a junk and salvage record in 2014. 35k miles and for sale 15000 Usd. This was imported to my country, South America.

From the outside it looks nice, however the underside of the hood has quite some rust. Also a little on smaller parts. Is this fixable or a deal breaker? Let me know what you think

Also let me know what you think it's worth? Engine runs fine.

    Thanks

See if you can find out where it was last registered in the US. Probably was in a flood, bought cheap cleaned up and sent to South America. I would run away from it.

Yep, probably right. If it was OK they would have just sold it in the US. There is still plenty of demand for them.

Yes very high demand for used Tacomas. With all the weather related disasters we had last year, there were thousands of vehicles sold for salvage which cant be resold and titled in the US. Many people who want to make a quick $$ buy these from insurance companies clean them up and put them in a container and ship them out to unsuspecting buyers. When I bought my 2012, I traded in the same exact truck that was 2005. I was really looking for a newer used truck, but every time I got to a dealer they were gone, so I just went new.

Looks like it has some rust in odd places (like the hood), might be flood damage.

As for the battery cable, looks like you could tighten it up all the way and still not be tight on the post. I don't think that's the correct battery. If you can get the VIN people here can look it up for you. Maybe tell if there was flooding when the truck was salvaged in 2014.

Anyone been to South America ?
That vehicle is a peach compared to a lot of rigs I’ve seen down there !
Never have really looked at car lots on my journeys, but have seen a crap load of buckets down south that appeared to be functioning business as usual.

I found out all of this from the Vin number...

Was already worried it was in a flood. Funny thing is they try to sell it like nothing happened to it. This is the 3th Tacoma with damage history I looked it. Seems like there is no clean one...

Not gonna risk it, thanks for the help!
