General 2017 Tacoma Questions

What is the octane requirement for the 2017 Tacoma V6, what is the purpose of the ECT PWR button and when should it be used? I am trying to hold off unwrapping my owners manual from its sealed package as long as possible. LOL

You need at least 1000 octane fuel, and ECT is a blue pill that puts you back in the Matrix.

I only asked because I already searched and found that 87 was the recommended octane. However I am not breaking 15 MPG and thought either going up in octane or using the ECT constantly would effect the gas mileage in either a positive or negative way. Google searches were a little vague.

 

Now THAT is a better question. New truck? You mileage will suck until break in and the transmission is still learning how you drive.

A lot of guys on here say they get better MPG if they use ECT in town and put their foot in it hard.

Octane rating means nothing as far as better mpgs. A gallon of 87 gas has the same energy as a gallon of 93 gas.

A few thousand miles.

Your more legit question; octane doesn’t matter in MPG. It does however, cleans up the fuel system a bit more if you use premium, but it’s such a small difference it’s not even worth it.

 

It takes a couple of thousand miles for the engine to break in. I saw mileage jump on both 3rd gens I have had.

This is absolutely true. Fluctuations in temperatures can affect tire pressures wildly, so keep it around 35 for optimal tire wear and fuel mileage.

The ECT button doesn't affect my mileage in stop and go traffic, but does on the highway/freeway at higher speeds.

I get 19 MPG with 93 octane, about 17.5 MPG with 87 octane. At a difference of $.80 per gallon, it doesn't pay for itself. Also, winter gas gets worse than summer gas (if you live in a cold weather climate).

The aggressiveness of my right foot is really the problem when it comes to my MPGs.

 

Also, our trucks don't like speeds over 65 mph. Most of us think that it is aerodynamically related. If you drive 80 mph a lot, your mileage will suck
