I will say my 08 had a lot more headroom than my 18. I like how the 18 sits higher but I'm only 5'11". I could see how anyone taller may be uncomfortable. With the visor down it's kind of tough to see out

Never been a fan of the sunroof. Having a hole over your head is just giving you more opportunity for leaks.

Not to mention glass getting thinner these days to reduce weight, you're seeing more instances of windows shattering.

I'll never buy a truck with one.

10mpg? The absolute worst I’ve recorded over a tank is 16 pulling my Kendon trailer loaded with a KTM 990 at 70 from Rhode Island to Maine (200 miles of hills).

Yep logically 1 and 2 don’t make sense. Common sense says driving easy means better mpg. Over the last 35K on my 2017 I’ve been confused trying to understand this.

Yes, there is a big difference between 2000 and 3000 rpms - no objection. But one would think that 6th gear at 2000 is better mpg than 5th at 2250 right? Well, not necessarily true.

I got annoyed trying to figure it out. My best mpgs come when I’m not trying to get the best. I drive an AT and although sometimes the shifting pattern seems goofy, it was designed for fuel economy.

    Ps. Not preaching.

Seems obvious to me that keeping the 05 you love, adding a new head unit and heated leather seat covers is the way to go.

Good luck whatever you decide.....over and out.

Personally, I say look for a 2015 TRD Pro. It keeps you in a 2nd gen, the amenities you are looking for, and slightly better interior than what your used to. Plus you get a real nice stock lift to boot. You can also add to it. I added 1/2 top plates to mine and a progressive aal. I know there was a real nice inferno pro for sale a couple pages in on the for sale ads here on TW

Well... then what are you doing?

I suggest you may want to go back and read the entirety of the conversation you started responding to... because nothing you're saying has anything to do with it. It's all good, and true information! I don't disagree with you at all actually.

But it has nothing to do with the initial conversation...

You're in the wrong state, Richard... get yourself a new map;).

No, he is correct. No contradiction. Using less horsepower (going 70 or below) increases mpg's not going a lower RPM. Accelerating slower to desired speeds is more efficient than lower RPM's.
Do this test: next time you are on the interstate, drive 70 mph in 6th gear for a minute and look at your instant mpg. Now drive 70 in 5th gear. What's the difference?
Now, slow down to 55 mph for a minute. Keep it in 6th gear. Record your result. Now go 55 in 5th gear. Examine all four numbers and you just disproved your statement.

God damn it guys I specifically was talking about driving at 50% of redline for extended periods, that I don't want to do it and get better mileage if I don't.

My initial post on this was 6 pages ago. Gotta read, fellas.

@Masterofnone , quick search of your profile reveals that you are a shit starter here on TW. My posts were about my truck. OP is asking about the truck. Your posts are about your feelings - so who’s input has nothing to do with the initial conversation?
“Richard...wrong state...new map” ??? Again, nothing to do with the initial conversation.

@toyotatacomaTRD sorry fot the thread jack. Good luck on your decision. I love mine and hate it at the same time.

    Like, so many.
There are some significant safety upgrades from the 2nd to the 3rd gen.

Whoa whoa whoa dude hold on... I posted my opinion about a 3rd gen first, then you quoted me several pages later giving me a lesson on MPG. I did NOT start any shit with you. You came after ME! And I said you were RIGHT but I wasn't the guy that needed to hear it...

And the map comment was a quote from Tommy Boy... maybe you've seen it.

I did NOT try to start shit with anybody in this thread. I apologize if I gave you that impression, but you need to calm down.

My response wasn't really defending Toyota. I was saying we should have more efficient trucks. Cars don't meet the needs of everyone who wants an efficient vehicle.

It would be kind of like me telling you, you should have bought a full size with a V8 if you wanted low end grunt.... When maybe a full size doesn't meet your needs.

I wasn't alluding to this either, dude. C'mon now!

Since we're on the subject, I get an extra 2mpg if I can lower my RPM from 3K to 2500.

It's not rpm! It's less power required lol.

Take a look at any torque/hp by rpm curve. Now, here is the formula:
    HP=(torque×rpm)/5252

If you reduce rpm, you reduce hp. You see that right? But, you need a certain HP if you want to move your vehicle at a certain speed, say 65 mph and maintain that speed right? You have two choices: find some magical unicorn torque button or, increase rpm. That's it.
Just say you prefer to drive slower to increase your mpg. That is a correct statement.

Notice there is no red line in that formula lol.
