Does anyone know the change interval for the stock Toyota oil filters? I'm planning on running my oil out to 10k miles and just wanted to know if I should change the filter halfway through or just keep sending it? I have a whole case of filters from Toyota for my truck so I'll be good with them for a while.
I just can't justify changing synthetic oil every 5k, seems like a waste to me. I've searched all over and can't find anywhere that says how long these filters are supposed to be good for
Thanks in advance for any help

What's the recommended oil change interval by Toyota? That's how long the filter is designed to last. I do 5000 miles with Mobil 1 and OE filter. The oil cost me $26 at costco and the filters are like 2.50 each. $26.50 for a synthetic oil change and 12 minutes of my time isn't worth my wondering if what I'm doing is okay or not.

10,000 should be fine. Some Toyotas have 10,000 mile oil change intervals with synthetic.

I assumed since the filter was up top on the engine I could just unscrew it and throw another one in without a whole bunch coming out but I've been wrong before lol

I think Toyota calls for changing the filter every other oil change, so 10k miles. I change mine every oil change because they're cheap, and I don't have to remember if it's been on there for 5k or 10k.

Yes. With the filter on top, you can change it without too much loss. Just let it sit a few hours or overnight to drain.

I've seen a few guys run the slightly larger genuine Toyota oil filer which I would assume would last a bit longer than the regular sized one. I'm not sure what the product number is though.

M1 "A" filters are designed to go 20k miles. No need to replace them during a 10k interval.

    103A fits the Taco.

Toyota calls for the OE filter on the 4.0 motor to be changed every 5,000 miles.

Then use conventional or a blend and change it every 5k miles.

Seriously, it’s a $20k truck and you’re worrying about “wasting” $30 worth of oil a couple times a year. Many people blow more than that on fast food in a week.

The Mobil 103A filter uses synthetic media and is superior to the paper oil filters for extended life.

The problem isn't that the oil can last 10k miles, the issue is oil consumption. You wouldn't believe all the cars I see where they try to go 10k miles and they come in with dry dipsticks. Change it at 5k. I change my full synthetic oil at 3k. ( I get it for free)

I don't drive much maybe 6000 miles a year but still change every six months. Call me OCD but I don't like leaving oil in there too long. Been using conventional oil. I always thought motor oil breaks down over time? Synthetic obviously lasts longer but for my situation I prefer frequent oil changes with conventional oil and gives me the chance to look over other parts of the vehicle for wear or leaks.

From what I've read here most people who are running synthetic and 10k intervals aren't changing the filter at 5k. If you are worried, there are "extended interval" filters you can buy.

Personally I run Mobil 1 syn at 10k intervals and started using a larger Mobil 1 filter that I change with the oil. I also get about 5.75 quarts in to full line because of the larger filter. I sent a sample off to Blackstone for my last change and was good at 10k. They said I could try 12k but I am sticking to 10k.

Why not use an extended performance filter? The M1 Extended Performance is rated for 15k miles of service. The M1"A" line is rated at 20k miles.

Either filter would more than exceeded your 10k OCI needs.

Toyota filters are cheap and easy to change.
