Just glancing around on the Toyota site and my local dealer I'm not surprised that the SR is not stocked. The money savings vs how much the truck is stripped makes it a poor value for the money.

Its a fleet truck. Either that or you buy a sr 2.7 4x4 manual and mod it for offroading and save a ton of money. Thats probably the most reliable one thatll last forever too...

Sometimes it's not about money... or stuff. It's about getting what you want.

I know it might be a foreign concept to some of you but some people are willing to pay more for less.

I do it all the time. My money, my rules.

If I could rewind I would have went SR with a 2.7. Save 10k and been just as happy. Not to say I have any regrets, but that 10k would have bought me a lot more capability than I have now.

I am an 2017 SR owner and very simply, the SR is everything that I wanted in a truck. I have the 2.7L 4x4 manual utility package, can't get much more basic than what I have. I live in the northeast and my truck gets me from point A to point B reliably in any weather, with a consistent 25 mpg highway. I plan on running my truck until it is no longer drive-able. And hopefully by the time my truck is no longer drive-able, Toyota will have brought back the 2.7L 4x4 manual.

I've installed cruise control and intermittent wipers for ~$200. I rarely drive with more than 1 other person, so the back seats aren't necessary for my purposes. Had I gone down the convenience package route, I'd be out $1500 more for two mods that I installed for essentially a 1/7th of the price and for two seats that wouldn't be used. With the money that I 'saved' by going the utility route, I'm able to buy a tonneau cover, side steps, mudflaps, and seat covers for my truck. Desired mods and needs fulfilled for the price of an SR with the convenience package, except I've customized my taco to my liking. Maybe for some the "money savings vs how much the truck is stripped makes it a poor value for the money" is true, however it is not always the case.

I would love to talk about what the SR means to me, the build onto the base, the tradition and fun. But every time I do it offends SOME people who chose to spend more money on a different product. The bacon is magnificent.

    Well said.

If the TRD Pro or the Limited were offered to me for the same price as the TRD Sport Manual? Sorry boys. I driving the Sport because it's what I want.

Geez, when I went to the dealership last year to look flat new vehicles I was driving a 2016 4Runner Trail with KDSS and looking at the new Land Cruisers to trade for the 4Runner.
I went home with nothing, drank a bunch of beer and evaluated what I truly wanted in a vehicle for the next several years.

It's sitting out in the driveway.

I was prepared to buy a pro. But long term, I couldn’t gut a pro. A truck like that I would keep as OEM as possible. I wanted something I could mod, needed to be 4x4 manual. 2 door. And after researching the engine choices... 2.7 was the go to. It wasnt about money, it was about the final product.
