I can't tell if the OP is serious or not...

Just in case this is serious... what is an SR 'stripped' of that can't be added later for cheaper, other than the fancy screen in the dash?

Kinda wish the SR was little more basic.

Manual windows & hubs...still had a lever for the T-Case, rubber flooring, etc...would be nice if it had marine gauges so you could hose it out.

    Miss wing windows too.

K foods done. Back in the 1st gen days, if you bought the base/cheapest model, you ended up with the 5 lug, which had a different chassis and ifs set up. The shock towers, upper control arms and lower control arms were weaker and smaller. It was horrible if you wanted to build onto it. Unless you went full custom, your only real option was a total chaos taquito kit. Ask me how I know. The SR is now the cheap option, tech and engines aside, all of the 3rd gen tacomas are the same. Chassis strength and ifs hardware are the same across all the trims, OR or pro.

Speaking only for myself, doesn’t matter the trim, pro or off-road, the factory coil overs are out. Air locker-in. So... why would I NOT choose the SR without the things I don’t want, WITH the engine I do, end result is still in the same durable chassis/platform across all trims.

It is too bad they don't offer a V6 MT in the SR, they used to but not anymore.

Do like the 2.7...works well for 90% of the stuff need/do. Bit underpowered when loaded down pulling a trailer. Guess I could just suffer only 10% of the time.

Them killing the 2.7 MT for '18 was really lame.

I like my SR...I did not give the other trim levels a second glance...

For me it was the 2.7 and the 5 speed manual shift.

I'm going to be in the market for a Tacoma in a year or so and have been looking at Tacomas for years.

I first started looking at RWD Sport's and SR5's, primarily because most of the trucks I grew up with were RWD so I figured I wouldn't need 4x4. Then I went camping and had fun and realized that a 4x4 truck would open up a lot of opportunities to go places and camp wherever I wanted, so I started looking at the Off Road. I prioritized a longer bed over cab space, so the Access Cab's were on my radar. At ~$35k it was going to be a stretch for my budget to get an AC OR, but I rationalized it by thinking "It'll have everything I'll ever want already on it so I won't feel as tempted to modify it."

Spent some more time mulling it over and then I realized that if I spent that much money and never ended up using the truck off road, it'd be an excessive waste, and the problem with the TRD Sport is that you're basically spending OR money but getting less actual mechanical/electronic content. The Sport AC does have the bonus of being the only way you can get the AC V6 MT 4x4 (and now it's the only way to get any AC MT).

I realized my current car was filled with a lot of excessive features that I've never really used and was really over exuberant and prone to expensive repair bills when it decided to break, so I thought back to my sweet old Celica, which rarely let me down and was cheap to fix when it did. I started looking at the SR and realized that it does come with quite a bit of standard features that I'd want in a vehicle. I found TW and saw all of the guides and information swimming around that would make adding anything I'd want to improve easy and cheap via DIY. No more manual option, but I can live with the automatic. A nice reliable four cylinder truck with everything I need and the ability to add in things I want later anyways. All at $4-5K less than an SR5 AC V6 4x4 usually around these parts. I don't tow and I don't *need* the power of a V6 where it can get me in trouble.

I came to the realization that a Convenience package SR 2.7 4x4 is the right truck for me since it gives me jump seats needed for work and a bonus for emergencies. I can't wait to get one.

It's just my opinion and it's your money you can spend it how you want but the prices of the Tacoma models above the SR and SR5 are obsene. You can get a discounted well equipped full size truck for less. The fact that the Tacoma has a cult following may make big money for Toyota but it doesn't mean the truck is really worth that price tag. I know I'll catch shit for that but that's my position.
