Hi guys. I'm about purchase this beast of a truck and wanted to ask you guys how would I go about inspecting the truck for any flaws before I make my final decision. Would also appreciate some good ideas on how to use it to make some extra income. And if anybody knows how much insurance and registration would cost for personal or commercial use. Thanks for your helps guys

Why would you buy a truck if you
    a. Don't know how to check if it's mechanically sound.
    b. Don't know what to do with it.
    c. Don't the costs involved with make it legal to drive.
It seems like you should be doing a bit more research before you purchase a beast of a truck.

You have a cdl license. Could use for moving people, or picking up stuff for them.

my FIL has a similar one, flatbed. his is AT and that thing is a driver's worst nightmare. but i can't comment on the MT except to say it cannot possibly be worse than the AT.

Nothing I would want to do, some people are hard to deal with lol. The maintenance registration and up keep, then you get to deal with California dot no thanks. Should look for a truck without air brakes and not deal with that hassle.

First of all I like big trucks. Second the owner is my old boss and his asking price is too good to pass up. I can afford to have it sit in my backyard till I decide what to do with it.

Was thinking to use it for side jobs, as I have my own career that I'm happy with. Thanks for your information!

So you drive truck and have a cdl, out of curiosity does that truck require you to have an electronic log?

PLEASE check on insurance 1st......Some states have high minimums, as in 6 figures for liability....I need 1-3 million to haul aggregate and you must be an LLC or incorporated to do any extensive commercial work....:ballchain: ;)

Yes ,you may buy it right BUT is it worth it :burnrubber:......................36 years in the business and I still sometimes say why ?? :fistbump:

Because you love every minute of it lol, been driving east coast 25 years. I can see why there is a major shortage of drivers, always entertaining though.

I work in regulatory, some of that deals with our fleet and the DOT regulations that govern it. It’s not something to take on without doing your research. The link someone posted above is a good place to start.

I’m sure not all the regulations of a multi-unit fleet apply to a single owned CMV but there are plenty of laws that do based simply on the GVWR of that truck once it’s used in commerce.

Also, living in California, I’m sure there are state laws to follow in addition to FMCSA guidelines.

You are correct.....My wife and kids say my DNA is ; one part whiskey, one part diesel and a little warm blood

My days are "interesting" as well..... driver needed a "few items" repaired before leaving to the "Left Coast" and was in such a hurry to bring his tractor into our yard, he forgot a LARGE rock garden protecting a water valve....paid my guys an extra 1/2 hour to correct a 389 bumper :fistbump: and left his LOADED trailer on a grass burm :annoyed:.....my manager comes and grabs me and ask if the trailer might tilt ..

I grabbed a tractor and dumped the air suspension, then "popped the trailer" onto pavement.:p

All in a days work.............I can't fix stupid BUT DAM, you will pay me well to CORRECT it :D....

If you can buy it super cheap and turn around and sell it do that. I only ever buy stuff to flip if I think I can almost double my money on it. If you use that rule it is hard to mess up and end up looking money on it.

    This might be the best advice;

Brakes on that truck grab my techs 2.5 hours per axle @ $119 an hour plus parts, clutch will start at 8-10 hours-same $$$ and oil changes will grab you to the tune of $199.95 to 269.95 depending on how many fuel filters....tires $300- 500 each..

If you are ready to "Budget That" and can still make $$$, you are ready to have your 2nd career/side work..

Good luck and keep us in the loop..

Unless you have to have it, just rent one when you need it. I imagine that you're going to park that in a residential area it's going to go over really bad.

It's being offered for $4500. I've seen them go for much more with similar miles and condition.
