Esp. within the MWSS squadrons. You would have liked the CO that replaced LtCol G, he was another prior enlisted guy... I think he did his flip flop when he was a SSgt. He was an amazing dude.

Marines! I think this may be a good place to ask this question. My nephew just entered boot camp a couple of weeks ago. It's been his childhood dream to become a RECON Marine and he has been working his ass off for two years to prep for boot camp. Needless to say, I am incredibly proud of him. I'd like to get him something special for his graduation (that's the question). The only idea I had was a nice Ka-Bar. I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thank You.

I would say an awesome vacation with family after boot camp would be good. Better than some toys, let him buy those.

I am not an infantryman but I'll ask the grunts at the office tomorrow. My first thought is that a ka-bar would be cool and he would appreciate it. However, I'd recommend that he not bring it with him to SOI or to his first unit. It will likely get lost, stolen, or confiscated and will get him harassed by the guys in his platoon at the very least. The key to being a good boot is to not attract attention except when you are doing your job and killing it. Any personal weapons will have to be left back home or they will have to be stored in the armory--I strongly recommend that he not let those Gremlins touch his personal weapon.

@WOTaco when he gets to the fleet a nice 3 point sling for his rifle or a K-bar would be awesome too. My dad got me a blacked out leather man multi tool

In his defense, he was prior enlisted. He may have had a lapse in judgement when he sold out and switched teams, though. ;)

3 points (and 1 points, for that matter) are old and busted, modern adjustable 2 point slings are the way ahead.

If it works for you and you're comfortable with it, that's what matters most.
