This time I got the Toyota Extra Care Platinum. Since I bought the truck with the 0.9% financing offer, I figured it was almost free money and thus worth it.
My previous vehicle was a Jeep Grand Cherokee purchased in 2012, and up to the date I traded it in last month I was still getting third party extended warranty offers in the mail. Some were from companies I never heard of, but some were from reputable sources. If you're an AAA member, a USAA member, or bank with a local credit union, you might check into what they offer.

This is my first Toyota, so I have no firsthand experience (yet) with their reliability/longevity, but so far I'm very impressed from a customer service standpoint with the national company and with my local dealer. That "Toyota Care" 2years/25,000 miles deal covers me for free oil changes and tire rotations, and if I remain happy with the local guys I'll check into buying the extended "Toyota Care Plus" plan if the price is right. I also got an email to bring the truck in at 1000 miles for a preventive maintenance inspection:

"It is in the spirit of our desire to protect your investment that we created WECARE. We know that all vehicles should be thoroughly inspected at 1,000 miles because proper early maintenance will likely ensure a long trouble free ownership experience.
While our skilled factory trained technicians inspect your Toyota, our technology specialists will be available to answer any questions that you may have regarding the operation of your new vehicle. Our parts specialists will also be available to answer questions regarding personalization of your new Toyota.
We know that your time is valuable. WECARE inspections usually take less than one hour. At the completion of the service, your car will be washed ( and vacuumed if necessary). We will also present you with a tube of Genuine Toyota Touch Up paint perfectly matched to your vehicle's exterior color. We will also confirm your first service which is due at 5,000 miles. WECARE is complimentary to you!"

    So far, so good.

I think it's an extension of the Free 2 Year Maintenance that comes with the Truck

Extra Care Platinum is the big ticket repair extended warranty. Toyota Care Plus is an extension of the free 2 year oil changes/tire rotations deal.
The "WeCare" thing I think is something that my individual dealership does.

The guy misled or downright lied to you about the 60month powertrain warranty that comes with the truck too. I would not believe anything he said or says. It looks like it was all about his profit .

You have up until the factory warranty expires to purchase the extended warranty from Toyota. I would drive it for a couple years and see if you have any problems. If you don’t have any I would probably not spend the money but if you run into a couple of issues it might be worth getting.

Because they will tell you what they need to for you to sign and buy without reading the fine print.

I've seen it denied before. Always comes back to some maintenance you didn't do or some how caused it yourself so they don't cover it.

I've seen stories of them going back to an oil change that was like 500km over due from a year or two before and say that caused it.

Save every little bit of maintenance records.
