really thinking about getting a set of 40" procomp MT2's for two reasons A they put a 40K mile warranty on them that i am currently abusing on my Cummins and B a radial would be so sweet for driving my crawler to close trails and to work so i can not drive my diesel as much in the winter.

So what is everyone doing for rear driveshafts? I ripped two shafts in half last week. Just slipping off the right line onto the wrong one ended up with the driveshaft on a rock.

    135" wheelbase
    63.75" driveshaft

I could make it a two piece again, but that's only going to change my up angle slightly. The next step is to rebuild them with 0.25 wall, but I'm still going to land on it.

track bar next to the drive shaft so it protects the dive shaft

hard to see but it's the red bar next to the red drive shaft lol

That's what I've done in the past, but with the 14bolt the bar is much further to the side. I didn't think it would be beneficial, but I may rethink that.

Mustangs are unibody but are still drag and track raced everyday. Unibodies can be great in the fact that they are lighter than a normal steel frame but can be beefed up with frame stiffners, subframes and roll cages. Alot and I mean a lot of people wheel Cherokees because they are cheap but still tough. Who gives a fuck about body panels anyways!

Going two piece would probably help quite a bit if you can shove the carrier bearing back as far as possible. A single piece DS for a 135" WB rig is a whole lot of driveshaft.... Next option would be a traction bar that protects the DS as already said. I still run a two piece and a traction bar and have never tagged a rear shaft.

People wheel XJ's because they are cheap. They are throw away trucks because it not a matter of if, but rather when the unibody bends.

The XJ is exactly that. It is disposable and cheap. It doesn't cost a fortune to build up like tacos do. By the time a normal guy (non fabricator) gets his funds together to build his taco, the guy with the xj has wheeled the piss out of his and most likely is going to drive that bitch till the frame snaps in half. It's not about how much money you got in your rig it's about the fact that they wheel and have fun. Don't beat on guys that don't have time or the funds to build what you have but applaud them for getting out and having fun.

Tacoma’s don’t cost much to build at all on IFS. That’ll get you as far as a D30/8.25 will in an XJ. Once you start talking axle swaps the cost goes up exponentially on both and will require some fab/welding skills. Upside is that you can keep a Tacoma for the long haul.

I didn’t beat on anybody, I just stated facts about the XJ. Clearly I should have put in a trigger warning for you.

If your mindset is to build an xj, destroy it, and then start all over you have other things you need to work out or have a ton of disposable money. IM not putting all that time and money into something and have the mindset that its "disposable". And wheeling aint cheap. Whats your saying about cheap and badass @rctoy?

I looked back through your thread. It looks like your trac bar axle mount is on the 14bolt housing itself. Any other pics laying around, or do you have to go crawl underneath her?

And comparing a Tacoma build to a Cherokee or even any jeep (for rock crawling) is like apples to oranges. Way more goes into a Tacoma sas than swapping axles on a xj, tj, or even jk. THey have aftermarket bolt on support in every way.

Well duh they come from the factory with solid axles and most have link suspensions.

Anyone who thinks building a late model Toyota is cheap and easy compared to a Jeep is a dumbass.

This. Plus once you build one set of axles you just swap them to the next victim

Some of the most fun I ever had wheeling was in a stock free xj.

How much does a fabricator charge an hour of work? If we want to compare axles on stock tacos vs stock Cherokee the d30/8.25 win bc they are already solid axles no need for a fancy long travel. Either way you look at it we are all in the same quest to get out and wheel. I don't give a shit if you sas a rav4 (dirt everyday episode)as long as you wheel.
