Just Blew A Lot Of Fuses-Need Some Help

I've got a '96 and long story short the positive battery terminal touched the metal bracket for holding the battery down and the truck started to smoke and emediatley went dead and had VERY little brakes and no steering, i was only going a few miles an hour on my property so it was ok, so i jumped out and pulled the battery away and thus the smoke stopped. Now the truck will sometimes start up and run a few feet then die and its like the battery isnt even connected, even though it is and its not hitting the metal that caued the initial problem. I called my local mechanic and he thinks i blew several "big" fuses that would likely be bolted down inside/next the fuse box. Does this make sence to anybody, can anybody offer some help it'd be much appreciated.

 

Could be fuses or the computer took a hard hit from the short.

 

just spoke to local toyota parts guy, told me i needed a replacement 80 amp main fuse thats what my mechanic said as well so i order one for $18 and gonna get it tomorrow so i'll go from there...

The first thing I'd do is ANCHOR THAT BATTERY DOWN !!! How'd it get loose enough to make contact with anything ?.......

 

i anchored down the battery so thats set, but i also tested all the fuses and even the main 80 amp fuse if completely fine, truck will still start but putters a lot and if you try and drive it'll stall does anybody have any ideas?

 

could have smoked some relays and possibly melted some wires. start looking over wiring. hope you find it fast and cheap... sounds like you got some good damage.

 

oh ya, the relay referred to as "starter" on the fuse box lid has 4 prongs, and only one of them is lighting up the meter, if i just change the relay will that solve the problem or is it deeper than that

on a search i found that there are supposed to be "fusable links' under the fuse box, could they be the source of my problems?
