So it stems from waking up early and getting ready to roll out, but you have to pack up the RTT its not bad just one thing I don't wanna do when I wake up. So to answer you question I believe it is laziness

That's why I have a ground tent. We rarely don't set up a 'camp' in one location for the entire weekend.

Why the hell would I want to set up and take down a tent every day? I just wanna wheel and drink beer. Together, or separate, you decide

 

Exactly and I'm liking the idea of a high clearance bumper. My OEM is so FUBAR

 

Ground tent or RTT, either way, you have to set it up and break it down when you move camp. Most newer ground tents are relatively easy to set up. Same applies to better RTT's. Either way, you would have a tent to knock down if you were moving.

My ONLY objections with RTT's (besides cost) are the added weight at a high center of gravity. (I prefer to keep weight to a minimum on my truck)....and exposure to weathering and/or mud when it "lives" on the back of the truck. None of which are that serious, but must be acknowledged and addressed as a potential issue.

My way of dealing with it now is, I just don't camp that often anymore. When I do, 2 really top notch ground tents. I would be OK with a RTT on an Expo trailer that could be left in the garage, out of the elements when not in use. But....Then you're dragging a trailer behind you when on the trails. May or may NOT be an issue, depending on the trail conditions.

In the end, a matter of personal choice. No "wrong answer"....

 

I agree but the RTT leaves you immobile until you break it down.

 

But at least you don’t have to take the bedding out of the RTT to break camp so Mabe a little faster.

Because a rear bumper has no bearing on a RTT or ground tent lol

 

In summer, and long as my tent isn't drenched, I can blow down my tent at the same rate if not faster than a RTT.

Unless it's the last day and I'm packing to go home. I'm slow because I don't want to leave
