Mainly looking for a rod for jigging. Something in the 6’ - 6.5’ grange with medium power and fast action.

Also possibly another ~7’ medium or medium-heavy power and fast action.

Spinning reels with both but I’d be open to a baitcaster for the jigging rod. I don’t know how to use a baitcaster without making a birds nest but I’m open to learning.

You’ve got 2.5 months to be ready! You’re doing better than I am...I don’t even have my kayak yet.

How heavy is that? I know you said it was MDO plywood but how is the weight compared to regular wood?

Do your drawers run the full length of the bed?

Looks like I'll be in Hatteras in April, either the weekend of the 20th or 27th depending on what my buddy can swing.

Check out Old Town Predators. Yes, the peddle drive systems are expensive but the mx can be found used for under $1000. I got mine in 2013 or 14 when they first came out I paid $1300 I think. Never had an issue with it and it is highly modifiable. Only down side is weight, I think it is right at 85 pounds empty. I fit a 28 quart cooler behind my seat and the front deck is actually a flat deck so it is easy to stand up on.

After paddling a "brick" around in real currents, I don't think I'd spend any more money on a fishing kayak without some sort of drive system.

My next kayak will have a drive system for sure. For the most part though, using a paddle has not been too much of an issue fishing in currents for me at least.

That's a damn good deal on the Cuda HD! I don't think I could ever do their Big Tuna though that thing is Yuge for a paddler it really needs a drive system.

That Cuda LT doesn’t seem too bad.

Just don’t know too much about Jackson kayaks.

45% off on a new one is pretty good. Jackson is a good name in fishing kayaks.

Yeah that’s a hell of a deal for a new kayak. :spending:

May look more into the Vibes. Think that 13 footer would be sweet!

We didn't get nearly as much rain as we were expecting which was nice. The boys had a lesson in how not to then how to correctly set up their tents.

They are made in TN and are one of the last remaining Kayak companies that didn't get bought out by Wilderness Systems. Still family owned and ran. They didn't get into the kayak fishing scene by converting some of their regular SOT kayaks but hired on people who kayak fish and pros to develop their fishing yaks. They make a really high quality good product. When I was shopping it was either going to be a Hobie or Jackson. All the other although they are nice seem to charge a lot for what you get and I don't think they are as nice or as well thought out as the JKs or Hobies.

@ovrlndkull I can put you on the attendees list on first post? Seems like the tentative plan (all up to Joe) is to fish in Charleston for a day and work our way down towards Beaufort/HHI.

I know where we can catch some bowfin!!!! Also if you got a bow I know a spot we could get some paddle fish.

Deep sea isn't really in my budget right now. If you want an inshore charter there is a guy out of Sneads Ferry, NC where my beach house is and his specialty is Speckled trout and reds. Hell the name of his charter is Speckled Trout Specialist. I've seen his catches and he slays them!!!

I will have my daughter that weekend so that may not work out for me unless I can switch weekends with her mother. Put me down as a maybe for now.
