Current: OME881's on 5100's (lowest setting), stock rear springs. sits level with the heavy homemade bumper and HF winch. Waiting for better weather to install 883's on the 5100's (lowest still) with JK 10mm trim spacers. then maybe the rear Dakar's I bought will look right. Tires are 31x10.50 R15's

What lift does your current setting give you?

The bumper and winch made the frontend sag pretty hard. the current setup raised it about 1.75", and it's pretty much just level now. Not good enough for me

Did you have to replace your upper control arms?

Reason why I'm asking detailed questions is because I just put a topper on and feel that this old 1st gen needs new leaf springs. I could go with the general springs heavy duty set but for the same price I could go with OME/DAKAR rear leafs for almost the same price.

GSHD = same ride height but strong springs for load, con's are that the quality might not be up there
OME/DAKAR = so far all reviews say they are worth it, con's the rear end will be raised 2.25 inches, 2 inches if I remove the 2nd/3rd leaf. Will cause me to raise the front as well.

General spring gets good reviews around here. I will say that in my own research for a lift setup I read mixed reviews on the height given by the GSHD springs. Some people said they were right about stock height, some people got inches of lift.

I order most of my lift set up through them, how long did it take? I have no idea honestly, it’s not an issue, customer service is there and free shipping. Give them a call and talk to them about your purchase. Ask questions they have good answers

I've searched a bunch. Anyone know offhand what height bumpstops are best in the rear with OME Dakars and 5100?

I dont want to bottom out my shocks but not too big where I may lose travel.

I have one missing stock bumpstop and ordered some Daystars. Hope I didn't get them too big.

I believe it's at 2 1/2" and higher, but from what I've researched it doesn't hurt to replace them for any lift.

3" Toytec spacers, Bilstein 5100s in the back with add a leaf and overloads removed.
3" on first gens and 2.5" on second gens I believe.

Hello. Would really appreciate some assistance... I have a 98 king cab (cab and a half) 4 cylinder tacoma. Use it down in Mexico and it has heavy use - dirt roads and beaches - I just put a 12000lb winch on and a winch bumper, must be 150-200lbs - we just put 883 springs and 90004 struts on the front and my bud reckons the struts are too short. My understanding was that the 883 work for a first gen with a heavy winch/bumper (they are the same dims as an 881 but stiffer... so what is going wrong? We can't order new parts quickly like in the states.... any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So what exactly is the issue?

Your buddy thinks the shock is too short? Why does he say that? So you already have them assembled and on the truck?

All fitted with winch and bumper so we know it is fully weighted. Just put 90004 struts as advised. My bud says they are too short. This should be the right combo for a first gen right? I'm not with the truck again until tomorrow but we have to recifty the problem asap...

Why does he say they’re too short?

Yes the 9004s have only half a inch more travel. So the numbers dont seem to add up with 3in lift. Maybe thats why people get the speed bump clunk from the shock topping out all the time. I have the numbers and stock shocks in front of me if you really want.
