Tinted windshield

Wanting to tint my windshield, % suggestions anyone??

 

I have 50% on my windshield with 20% on the sides. I really like it it's just enough where I don't need sunglasses but not dark enough where I can't see at night.

 

My suggestion would be to call a local tint shop to ask what the legal limit in your state is. Then put that % on.

 

Whatever is legal in your state, and any state you think you might move to during your ownership of the truck.

 

I got my wife's 4runner done with 35%. Sometimes it can be difficult to see out of at times at night. But that's when she had 5% of the front driver/passanger windows as well lol. She has now changed it to 35% and isn't nearly as difficult to see out of. Also in the state of Tennessee it is illegal to have the entire windshield tinted. Only a window strip can be used.

Because it's totally addictive! Once you do it you'll never go back. Don't go too dark or you will regret it. 50% or less makes a HUGE difference in sunlight & heat. You'll feel the difference on your arms as you drive towards the sun.

 

Nobody is saying to go dark. 3M makes a special windshield film that you barely even notice. It doesn't affect night driving in any way, shape or form. In fact, if safety is your angle I would argue that it helps more with daytime driving than it does hurt with night time driving. If someone wants to throw limo tint or even side window darkness tint on their windshield I agree with you. However the film used on windshields is much much lighter than you're imagining.

 

Yeah so anyways, just don't go darker than 50%.

 

I hate the word photophobia because it makes it sound like I have fear of light, however my eyes are just very sensitive to light so at night I would have trouble seeing due to oncoming traffic, it would give me headaches. Because of this I have found that a tinted windshield reduces the glare from oncoming traffic allowing me to see better. Again this is an expensive tint that is designed for people with my condition. Can't say what different tints would do. Again I may be a special case but I wouldn't be able to drive at night without a tint.

 

Well my very good friend couldn't see due to sun glare & killed an even older and better old man. Had he tinted his windshield with a very light film maybe it wouldn't have happened. Maybe his dog would still be talking to him today if he had just tinted his windshield but instead he won't even talk to him now.

 

Oh the humanity! Won't someone listen to this random guy on the internet who's heart is clearly in the right place but applies zero common sense? It's clearly black or white with no gray area. I mean, surely everyone in this thread means to apply thick black paint to their windshield using a paint brush. No way would something exist that is designed for such use & even HELPS people drive more safely. Nuh uh, not possible.

Tint also has UV protection which helps prevent cancer so there’s that. Especially for any long distance daily drivers. It’s why most people with skin cancer or esp truckers get it on the left side of their body rather than right.

 

What about British truckers?

 

They get right side cancer. So OP it is decided, do black cut and stick on vinyl for all windows including the windshield

 

Daytime sun glare could cause these same issues with visibility.
Legal Tint could have helped.
We all live in different areas.
Things that work for you may not work where others live.

 

Might as well add another argument to the pile: some people claim that tinting the windshield actually improves their night vision, as the difference between the windshield and their other tinted windows is then less severe. And don't forget all the asshats on the roads nowadays with HID scatter and improperly aimed headlights who screw with your night vision. Everything on the internet is true.

 

No they get wrong-sided cancer as they drive on the wrong side of the road/vehicle.

 

Personally, I wouldn’t go darker than 70%. I think 50 would be great in the day but way too dark at night

 

While technically illegal here in CA, I went with window film rather than a window tint for the windshield. It was the LLumar A/R 80 window film. It blocks over 99% of UV rays and most of the heat. My dash stays cool even with the blazing CA sun and it has a virtually invisible appearance. No problems whatsoever with day or night driving.
