I enjoy the simplicity cause I can take it to the game or the beach and tailgate as a grill, but also throw a turkey in it and smoke on it from home.

I’ve been looking to add a WSM 18 to my grill collection (who knew that collecting grills was even a thing) and came across a 2 year old Akron for $100. I already have a Weber 22 kettle and a Masterbuilt XL propane.

Originally I thought the Akorn was ceramic but it looks like it is insulated steel. The price is great (and expires today) but I’m concerned I may still pick up a WSM, so the Akorn becomes a second grill to my Weber (which I’m happy with).

Always lots of opinions and advice in this thread. Give me your perspective, either here or as a DM.

As an aside, smoking jerky in the Masterbuilt this weekend and I’m already salivating...

According to Cold Iron kamado style cookers are very limited in comparison to a WSM. So it probably isn't worth it even if you got paid $100 to take the Acorn.

I know on my kamado I can only cook/smoke/fry things that would otherwise have to be cooked over and open flame, in an oven, on a grill, in a crock pot, in a hot or cold smoker, on a stove, in a tandoori oven, in a pizza oven, on a griddle, in a Dutch oven, in a wok all unaffected my weather + these POS's uses charcoal at 1/2 the rate of a metal shell cooker. What junk!!!!!!!

For $100 I would say go for it. I know I will probably pick one up this summer to use in conjunction with my Traeger and my mini Masterbuilt we use for camping. Where did you find such a good price on the Akorn?

Just pointing out all the kamado shortcomings.

Don’t you see how un-universal these things are?

A collector would not ask but would be saying why not both? Get the Akorn now that's a pretty good deal. Then get the WSM later? Unless space is a constraint then that requires more thought.

Craigslist in San Diego. Apparently seller is moving tomorrow and knocked $50 off the original asking price to avoid having to move it. If anyone is in the area and interested, I’m happy to connect you to the seller if I don’t go for it.

I’m not managing space but I am managing perception of the household CEO. I plan to get the WSM soon and have a lead on one; two additional grills in one week and I’ll be homeless for sure. On the plus side, I’d have no problem cooking or staying warm while living on the streets with four grills/smokers!

Honey 4 is just getting warmed up, look at this guy!

Erhh maybe not, don't want you to be homeless. Yeah sounds like decision time and only you know better than anyone else based on how and what you want to smoke, cook, how many people, etc. Old fashioned pen and paper with pros and cons to visually see usually helps in those situations. Unless you're into Viso and other logic diagramming software. If you want a logical decision and not emotional. Post up a cook with what ever you decide on of course!

    Of course you do!!!

Question is, do you have enough meat to fill them all?

Early Valentine’s Day presents from the wife, finally got a vortex for the kettle! No wonder why the wife hinted at doing wings this weekend :headbang:
