Can a newb check this themselves in the driveway? I have ramps, a jack, stands, and tools.

If not, there is a super reputable tranny place near me. That's all they do. I am sure it wouldn't be that expensive to have them check it. Also, is the OEM fluid synthetic? Just curious, since I only have a little over 10k on the clock, how about going full synthetic if not?

It's not that difficult to do. However, you have to make sure the transmission fluid is at the correct temperature (it expands when it gets hot). Confirming the correct temp is the complicated part. Once it's at the correct temp you just take off the fill plug and if it is full (correct level) a tiny bit will drip out. If nothing comes out you fill until it starts dripping. That is it. The problem is if it's not at the correct temp you may over fill and it could cause issues when it expands.

the over-heating responses may have been in reference to removing the vertical air dams behind the grill.
Even those, I believe, are based on speculation. Since the lower air dam isn't damaged by removing it if you do experience issues it can always be reinstalled.

Interesting. I've seen quite a few posts on TW of people reporting that the dealer checked the fluid level without the crawling under the truck part. Does the tech just read the temp from techstream and assume the fluid level's ok if the temp is ok?

For those getting the transmission fluid checked I suggest marking the transmission plugs with a paint pen. Paint all sides of the hex and then draw a line across the face with a matching dot on the transmission. I did this and I could see both paint removal on the wrench flats and the alignment mark was slightly changed. Cannot be checked any other way. Must be cold start and bring up to temp. You cannot drive in and have it checked. Must sit overnight and started cold prior to checking.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I am sure I can handle it. I will need to buy or build two more ramps though.

Why do they start off cold and then bring it up to temp? What the difference? Does it have to be under a certain temp?

Prepping for a camping trip later this week, I pulled off the sway bar and factory mud flaps. The difference driving without the sway bar is pretty big. I'm thinking about just leaving it off? Or, installing selectively?

It feels more like a truck with some body roll in corners. Nothing excessive. Uneven bumps and potholes feels so much better, esp situations like pulling into our driveway with the rounded curb. Not getting pitched side to side.

Im planning on telling her in a homemade card that I’m taking her camping to her favorite rockhounding site in the desert.
And if asked about it, we needed the armor to get there with this new truck. Won’t that work? I mean, women go for homemade cards, especially if you write a couple rhyming words that end with xx’s and oo’s :fingerscrossed:
