Yeah, $50k for a Tacoma is pretty steep.

You could always go for the '19 pro. Comes with a snorkel now...id hate to see the price on them though.

Who wants a dorkel?? Most people don’t even off-road, they certainly aren’t going to do deep water crossings.

I think the snorkel is more to grab cleaner air from higher off the road. Engines drown ECUs whether you have a snorkel or not. I am sure they are worth it if you drive dusty roads a lot.

$50K would build a killer truck...Even a nice GX. So what was the last year for the 4.0 in the Taco? Reading alot of nasty stuff about the new motor being underpowered. Trans hunting constantly on the highway.....And what is the deal with the weather stripping whistling/howling at highway speeds. A coworker has a 16 and it has been in and out of the shop while they hunt for the windnoise. My guess is the stripping around the windshield but ofcourse the dealer refuses to replace that. At one point they duct taped a bunch of weather stripping and went for a drive. What a friggin mess they left on the paint. Dealerships suck.

If memory serves the Pro also has a slight lift upfront....like an inch or something.

2015 was the last year for the 4.0 V6. I am not surprised that the new 3.5 is having growing pains, there's a lot of new tech in there. I am sure Toyota will get the bugs worked out and will be leading the way for gas engines. Still I am glad I am not one of the guinea pigs!

I would think the 18s would be somewhat sorted out

Downside is the 18s are untouchable and most dealerships won’t lift them and with all the sensors on them

I would imagine you could lift it yourselves but you would have to disable a lot of the sensors

I watched a YouTube vid a guy was driving his 18 tundra in the snow and the Toyota emblem got snow covered and his collision sensor failed and set off a bunch of warnings on his dash

I should clarify first that the kijiji add is mine :anonymous:

I have this idea that I don't need everything that the 2nd gen has to offer, and would be pretty satisfied with a 1st gen (and hopefully get a reliable truck that will last forever) at the same time I'm hoping to get a decent truck with some cash on the side to put elsewhere

I debated selling my truck and getting a first gen too. There are parts I really like about them.

They're starting to turn up in junk yards and stuff.

Front wheel bearings are a better set up from what I understand (I've never had one apart though)

    They're a smaller truck.

There are a lot of benefits to owning a first gen compared to a 2nd. That's for sure!

That said, if I was going to get rid of my truck I'd probably go for a pickup rather than a Taco. I absolutely love the old pickups.

I see your wheel bearings and raise you our really shitty lower ball joints. When your bearing fails it sucks, when our LBJs fail the wheel smashes into the fender, twisting and destroying most of the suspension components.

Although I love my 1st gen, it isn't without flaws.

If you check them regularly, you'll catch them before they get to the point of utter destruction.

I've done two LBJ's in my truck as well.

Shouldn’t have to worry about complete front end inhalation. But I check mine and replace every couple years.

I looked at a few first gens when I was looking. The biggest issue I had with the first gen was how old it felt. I was in a 2003 and it felt like it was a slightly newer version of my old pickup. Which I would think was a good thing if it was also built to the same quality of the old Japanese built trucks. I just didn't see it.

If I was to go any older than the second gen truck I would want another pickup/ hilux.
