a little background, i got my truck lift last week (tuff country 3" spacer and add a leaf on the back) then i went down and installed 285/70/17 tires on the truck ever since then, if i take a corner a little fast (not crazy and not any faster then i used to) the traction control starts to work, the truck beeps at me and i can feel the a weird vibe up front). so i did some searching on here and thought all i needed to do was take the truck in and get it re-calibrated. so i did that today and on the way back to work it did it again on an off-ramp!!!! it never did this until i got the lift and tires.
the dealer told me it was my problem since i lifted the truck and that must be causing this.

anyone have any other ideas why this might be happening??? again i just had the values rest to zero it out.

    thanks for the help.

Did you check the owner's manual? I was skimming through it awhile ago and I know they mention stuff about what could happen if you lift/modify the truck in anyway. I'm not completely positive though, but give it a look through, see if it mentions anything.

not sure i do not pretend to be a mechanic, so i would not even know where to look.

i am wondering if it could have something to do with the tires themselves. i read a bunch of reviews on the duratracs (which is what i have, and i like so far) but a lot of reviews talked about weak side walls so if it were a side wall problem would that cause the sensor to go off????

I've had this exact problem and we've had some lengthy discussions on it. This DOES have something to do with the yaw sensor being off a couple of degrees, thus kicking in VSC when it is not *truly* needed.

I'll link back to the threads I have. Give me a sec.

    Here are the threads...

This first thread is me freaking out about the issue, thinking it was a tranny issue. Later posts pin it down to a VSC issue.

This thread is from another member on this site (OZ-T) who has had the same problem and gotten it fixed at the dealer. I will be taking it to the shop tomorrow with this information on hand.

I had the same problem after I installed my 2.5" lift. I called Toyota Corporate and asked how to recalibrate it or how to fix it and they refused to give instructions for anything that involves non-genuine toyota parts. I just lived with it.

i took it in they did that recalibration and it did not fix it. i did a search before i called Toyota and that i why i got them to fix it. so either they did it wrong or i have a different problem???? i trimmed the finders and mud flaps last week and that did nothing to help the problem so i think you are right there.

it would be nice to figure this out since twice now it has almost made me hit another car!!!!!

I still don't understand what a calibration would do. Like I said the nasty growl and beep kick on when I take incline corners at variable speeds. Hell it did it to me in a hospital parking lot just backing up out of a parking space after an alignment, so I stopped and noticed that the wheel was rubbing on the frame. It also looked like the technician messed with the wheel camber too much because the tire was slightly back.

I will check with my dealer on the calibration, but I really dont understand why a lift would mess with it.

Now that makes since. I will have to take it to the dealership I guess next week. Damn, and I fender trimmed a lot thinking that the tire was still rubbing on turns.

6% Tint all around, Toyota all-weather floor mats, Toyota bed extender and skid plate, Python 991 remote-start alarm, oem cruise control and class III hitch were all installed within a couple months. I then installed Icon c/o's and Icon's 3-leaf aal with 17x9" GA9's and 285/70/17 Goodyear Duratrac's. The DRL mod was done, as was a custom rack setup similar to the org. cross bars. Blacked out headlights bought online, and a BOSS 1500 under-seat sub installed along with a Pioneer double-din DVD player
I have the same problems, and I also have Duratrac's (like the OP). I am getting an alignment by the dealership here soon, and I am bringing in a copy of the VSC calibration pdf for them to do after the alignment. I have only had this issue arise on sharp, quick turns, and once on a wet off-camber turn (I don't think it should have kicked in even then). It's scary when it happens, and like some have said - VERY UNSAFE! It basically makes you understeer big time. Anyway, I will post back about how the alignment and VSC calibration affects anything. I don't like the idea of having to hold the VSC button for 3 seconds everytime I start the truck, but if that's what I have to do to be safer on the roads then so-be-it.

I went back to the dealer with paper work in hand they said they would do an alignment then zero it out again so we will see what that does but I have to wait until Wednesday but they said it would be free.
when i took the paper work in with me they said that is exactly what they did today. but maybe another alignment will help

Hey guys...I just went into the dealership today for my 5K service. I had them reset the VSC sensors to whatever it needed to be reset to, and things look really good. I took the truck on some pretty sharp turns at good speeds, and VSC didn't kick it.

The dealer did mention to me though that that solution seems to be hit-or-miss...it solves the problem on some lifts and not others. Mine was lucky enough to be one that could be fixed with a reset.

Cost me like $70 though, but whatever. At least the problem is gone. :p

What was the final verdict on the VSC issue with lift? Just got mine lifted and experienced the same problem. Will the alignment, YAW calibration, and reset the VSC resolve the issue? Agreed, it is a scary situation on the road!

I did all of that and still have the same VSC issue, no guarantee. I might just upgrade to the RCS 4.5" lift in the future because I don't think the kit effects the VSC because of the drop bracket. I just learned to take corners slower.
