Yea I think cbi has the kinks worked out in the production so it’s pretty straight forward now.

Well I was able to chop up some pieces this weekend in regards to my light bar mounts. It sits up a little higher now, but will probably be loud as shit. But I guess now I’m that dude with a prinsu and a 52 inch lightbar!

As predicted the lightbar in tandem with the wind deflector made one hell of a channel driving to work. I decided to take a few minutes and remove the wind deflector and see how that does with the noise. The lightbar has always been noisy to a degree, but man it was def amped up with the wind deflector behind it. Theoretically it isn’t doing much since the light bar already breaks the plane and separating air just before it hits the deflector.

I think it is best for all if you just bring that prinsu to the house and I will let you have my oem roof racks so you can go back to the way it was in order to help. In turn I will try to figure out a new home for the prinsu and a way to manage without my oem bars...

I am willing to do that for you, as your friend.

On topic with the prinsu rack, after driving home yesterday the noise level without the wind fairing was SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. As I stated before, my lightbar did create a turbulent channel that is noticeable at about 65 MPH and faster which is ok since I don't haul ass as much with the dirties. With the removal of the wind fairing I have achieved the same amount of noise that the light bar by itself used to create.

That said though, I would be curious to see how others fair with their prinsu racks as before I put the light bar on I could hear the wind turbulence on the rack right as I hit 50 MPH which would get old as I will normally achieve that speed on highway. Assuming folks utilize 3-4 bars spaced throughout the rack if not all the bars, the wind fairing isn't needed and would be curious if other owners hear the wind fairing? The surface area of the prinsu bars IMO just based off dimensional observation create little to no surface area and the drag and whistling is likely somewhat minimal. Given that the bars are likely located above the driver/passengers head if not further back on the roof depending on the arrangement, I would argue that even if they emit some sort of vocal distortion that it might not even be heard unless the truck is fully filled with people.

It would be one thing if the wind fairing were double in height as it can then shield boxes and miscellaneous pieces that might be attached to the rack since the fairing could provide a consistently diagonal face to channel the air off the rack instead of hitting it straight on. But with its current size profile it only blocks air from going underneath the rack.

That being said, it does make me beg to question whether or not the wind fairing on the rack was created off the main influence for looks and to create the "clean" profile of it instead of being an air deterrent? I might take off my light bar just to see how my findings for this theory might be, but I would be interested in seeing what sort of conducive testing was implemented in the creation of the wind fairing. As far as a structural point of view, I would argue that the supplied bars in the roof rack more than make up the strength needed to retain its shape and distribute the advertised loads with the absence of the wind fairing. If you think about it, there are many roof racks that are simple in consisting of a few horizontal cross bars with no wind fairing and most don't pay it any mind on the road as they don't usually broadcast much if any noise at all.

Yep and the light bar doesn't affect the airflow at all when its down. But good point for another reason not to have the wind fairing.

The wind fairing is all for looks. If anyone says it actually helps with nothing on top of the rack is full of it. My big ass wind fairing barely helps. Lol
