You sir, don't belong on TW with a balanced approach such as that. Self aware? Geez two for two!
I'm perfectly fine with someone saying they enjoy their truck and have no issues. I'm also ok with someone saying they don't like their truck for this or that reason. As you said, each experience is different.

What I'm not ok with is some posters who perpetually try to convince others what their opinion should be. Some of them have resorted to name calling and have a firmly entrenched "holier than thou" attitude. Welcome to the internet I guess SMH.

77k miles on mine. The only thing I replaced on it was tires, front pads and a windshield(a 370Z flung a large bolt at my windshield).
    Get it.

Its a tamed truck when cruising. If you really want to feel the engine, try turning on ECT and Hold the traction control for 5 seconds so it could completely turn off. Then you'll be able to get all the power without any computer restriction.

I wouldn't buy anything other than a Ferrari 488 or Porsche 911. But those are just dream cars.

Well I can't sell you on it, but I can say that I love mine. I've had zero issues. I actually love my truck more that the Wife....JK. Honestly the lack of V8 power bugged me at first, but if you want V8 power, you shouldn't be purchasing a midsize truck.

On a side note, do any of those TFL guys look like they even need a truck? None of them look like they have ever worked a hard (manual labor) day in their life. Doubt if Andre knows the difference between a framing hammer and a ball peen. Not even sure they should be even testing trucks. :D

Both are getting their necks ringed out!

So.... Tacomas aren't good for racing or towing, what are they good for then? :p

I just drive mine back and forth from work, occasionally, I'll take it camping, hunting, or road trips..... does pretty good for those tasks.

Drove 300 miles to meetings for work, took it out to a harvesting machine being tested which was crap mud logging road, went to Lowe's to pick up some lumber and hauled my mower to the shop this past week. Oh, the 300 miles was mostly snow covered.

    Pretty standard week.

    A Tacoma... :D

Can't tow, poor payload, under powered, awful fuel economy, expensive...beginning to question my sanity.

I just don't get this speculative "who is better than who" nonsense between the Gen 2 and Gen 3.

Almost every time hp/tq, towing, or speed comes up in these threads, out pops the end all video of the one fairly unofficial drag race with all 3 Gen trucks, or guantlet tow uphill as if they are the authority on the matter.

Enough of you guys here on TW own enough combinations of Gen 2 and Gen 3 trucks across the globe, and hang out together already. Get together and do some battle runs to actually make it very clear which Gen is better than the other at various tasks.

No more of this speculation crap, or non evident gibberish to pound your chest over.

Go out and prove what you preach. Record it, post it on YouTube, whatever?

Throw in some GM twins, or a few Ridgelines to clear up those assumptions at the same damn time.

    Seriously!

    1st Gen.

Not much has changed over the years, have the money set aside for a new truck..but can't bring myself to buy a 3rd Gen, because of said reasons.

Like the OP, not really all that impressed with it. Have test driven them 5 times, and each time I am let down.. then look at the sticker price, and think I can get much more truck for the same or cheaper.

Trying to force myself to like it, since it is a Toyota...and then I say to myself "this is a Toyota!?" It is like marrying a skinny girl, and right after you put the ring on her finger, she gets fat...and now wants me to buy her a bigger more expensive house so her fat ass looks smaller in it. Toyota trucks made sense when they were small, somewhat cheap and got twice the mpg's of the fullsize I was driving years ago (that was 26 years ago when I bought my first Toyota) Now...not sure they do.

I dunno, thinking a F-150 is the better buy. Might as get it over with and marry the fat chick right from the get go. :D

Think the difference between the two is splitting hairs.

I am in the camp of wished they stayed small like the 1st Gen, and worked on efficiency, better payloads, yet they have gone down.. towing has indeed gone up, but not by much. Which I don't expect to tow much with a small truck...though I do want damn good gas mileage if I can't tow much. Mpg has been flat for years.

They are all good trucks, just not overly impressed with either of them... 2nd/3rd gen. They drive like fullsizes to me. But I am kinda old skool and miss the true mini truck days.

The f150 is a boat. The new taco maybe larger than the old tacos, but not quite that gargantuan. You would never see an F150 in the off-road nooks and crannies of my local area. There is definitely still an advantage to the Tacoma form factor for off road. Doesn’t mean you will like it, but the truck is not really much like an F150, so the comparison is not a good one IMHO.

Those days are gone my friend.
    Gone, gone, gone.

Due to the masses that control the sales, we Simpletons get the hose.

We lost our straight axles to have a softer ride.
We lost our manual hubs to the lazy.
We lost our transfer case levers to the cup holder frenzy.
We lost the "N" in our transfer cases due to folks not understanding why it is useful.

I foresee within 10 years we will lose L4 due to the masses not understanding what it was used for.
