This is gonna sound crazy, and stink like BS... but it's not. The RC62F 6-speed in our V6 M/T rigs does not have the extension on the input shaft. The crank, accordingly, does not have a pilot bearing in the end of it.

The 5 speed M/T that pairs with the 4cyl does, however (well up until the '18's debuted, no more M/T 4 cyl period).

I'm not going to open up the 11000 +page SM tonight to show you lol.

It's been that way since they came out with the 6 Speed in 2005, l dont understand their reasoning behind it though.

Yeah, before this truck I'd never heard of a M/T without an extension/pilot bearing. :notsure:

Equally weird is why Toyota decided to keep the "normal" setup with the 4cyl/5speed.

We really dont have the best throw out bearing design either, it is weird the way they kept the 4 Cyl that way.

To get manuals I have to buy new vehicles. I tend to buy used so I tend to end up with automatics. Will those 8 speed ZF automatics by cheap to keep running with 300,000 on them?

    DIY Fabricobbler.

Did not know that. Also, did not know that was possible.
There most be some crazy engineering going on in there to keep everything in line and not start a death wobble.

That's where I fucked up.. I Should have gotten the Frontier Pro4x... I didn't look into it more because I was "mad" the frontier was old by industry standards and there was no news on an update at the time. The tuning and clutch of the Frontier is night and day difference better than our trucks.

Luckily our trucks hold up in value like a MF.

20180211_212847.jpg Road trip to Banff and Kananaskis this weekend. Around 400 km round trip. Very impressed with the MPG. 4x4 engaged almost entire trip due to recent snow storm and cold snap. Chill mode was also engaged averaging about 90-95 km/h about.
    Lovin the Taco.

Congrats, you're doing better in the cold in 4x4 than I do in summer driving on roads!

Haha. Usually same for me. I dont know what happened lol.
I think some good coffee and good company helps keep the foot out of the skinny peddle on road trips. The major difference there I think.

I will say, I've been having a little more fun lately racing through the first 3 gears, and my MPG may be ticking up, strangely. So, no apparent benefit to driving this truck like a granny.

My theory on that: the gas-saving faux-Atkinson mode kicks in <2K RPM, and getting into the bottom of a higher gear quickly, by not dilly dallying in lower gears, allows it to spend more time in that zone.

That explains my bad mileage lol. I'm not having fun if I'm not wound up to at least 3k.

3K is where the run starts! Too many people are afraid to let it wind up .....Perhaps they should spend a few miles behind the wheel of a Honda S2000?
