Switch Location Idea

I'm thinking of mounting a switch on each side of the center console section in the dash for a winch cutoff and my ARB compressor. Does anyone know how much room is behind the panel where the red arrows are in this picture? I'd imagine it's hollow, but I can't get back there without pulling everything apart - would prefer to only do that once during install if I do it.

 

As it turns out, there’s plenty of room behind it.

 

That looks pretty clean good idea. Curious why not an OEM slot on ceiling or left of stearing wheel to look factory? But i like what you did

 

Good question. I had one left of the steering wheel, but I had a hard time seeing it there. Could have done the ceiling too, but I would have had to get an new panel or cut a hole there too. I may do the ceiling for future items as well. I could also put an OEM style one where these are now if I want, but those were $23 per switch, and the ones I used were $5.

Did you have to pull off the center console (the part under the gear shifter) to get into that portion? I have a double rocker switch* I was planning on putting on the somewhat vertical portion under the e-brake, but I wonder if this spot might be better.

*switch is going to be my toggle for front/rear camera.

 

Nope. Didn’t pull anything off at all. You can access it from behind a bit as well. There’s some structure in the first inch or so from the top, but then it’s completely open behind it.
