Okay, absolutely no issues with the 2017 Tacoma and it has 6,400 miles. Doing what it is supposed to do. Has not returned to the dealership for anything except the 5,000 mile service and oil/filter change.

I did adjust the hood to remove the gap on the drivers side. Took maybe 30 seconds.

I would be careful with these kits, the first thing I was asked when they determined the engine had a miss was if I had done a tune up or downloaded a program into it, which I have not done.

I suspect that they were looking for a reason to void the warranty, but who knows, I am not a mechanic and would not have the technical expertise to do this anyways.

They were quite adamant that one of these tunes could corrupt something and cause the miss and they (The Dealership) seemed to be well aware these tunes are out and about for folks to use.

But like I say, I am not a mechanic, would not do the tune anyhow, and have no idea whether the Dealership is just blowing smoke...

I really can't comment on the 2018 but I have a 2016 trd or built in the U.S. and even though it still has less than 20000 miles I have had zero problems. Compared to other first year vehicles I've owned , I have to say I'm impressed. The engine , transmission combo is definately different so you have to take it for what it's worth. Toyota can't keep up with the demand for the Tacoma , so apparently theyre still building a few good ones.

Do they have any rentals at the dealership?

If you have a good Dealer and they think you are a serious buyer they will give you the Truck to take home overnight. My Dealership let me have an Automatic Off Road for a few days for an extended test drive, I ordered a Manual after that experience.

Yep, probably won't be a brand new one, but most dealers have a few demo units the salesmen get to use. Which is a better test anyway as they've already been broken in.

The one they gave me was brand new, had 6 or 7 miles on it and the window sticker, they backed it right out of the row of Tacoma's, slapped a Dealer Plate on it and sent me on my way. In fact they let me pick the Truck I wanted to take with me, I picked the Inferno Off Road.

Originally they were blaming the vibe on the leaf packs, I suggested from the start to
look at the drums because after years and years of driving, that's what it felt like but they
were hell bent at pointing it to the leafs and replaced them both with new. No fix. We went back
and forth a few more times, they agreed to replace the drums and BOOM! no more vibe.

    good luck man

Haha Thats why we are viewing it as the "family car". If it was just me, i would just buy a Camaro but that wont happen until both kids are out of college

Wrong. CVT transmissions in VW/Audi are much worse

2018 Just bought last week. I love the truck and my only complaint is it likes to get "stuck" in 4th gear sometimes and not up shift. But 33s are most likely the culprit of that :notsure:

FAKE NEWS! Infrequent poster. Coming up on the 1 year mark with my 2017 TRD OR with 15K miles. Not a single problem.

Did you not read my reasoning for being away so long? I was laid off in summer 2016 with my second daughter on the way. I had anxiety and depression for over a year and now ready to mentally buy a new car.

I've been out of the loop for some time but people complained of bad shifting with the transmission plus low ATF. No engine issues actually that I recall actually

I did read your post. I was referring to myself as the infrequent poster. My 2017 has no transmission or engine issues. My buddy’s 2016 limited taco has been troublefree as well.

There's a recall on some crank position sensors installed during specific time frames, when it fails can immobilize the truck but other than that, the engine itself has been pretty reliable.

2 years and 27k miles, had the first TSB done due to R-D shift delay and had the diff hardware replaced under warranty due to slight weepage.

No other issues to report and have been very happy with the truck.
