You guys have me thinking, I should get some real weights on my trailer. Spec is 448 tongue, 5000 gross, and 3766 dry. I have a battery and generator on the tongue to consider now, as well as full tanks, solar panels on the roof, etc.

I've always had mutts. If I was going to get a 'breed' of dog it'd be an Irish Setter. My dad had one when I was a kid and he had a split personality. A real doofus around the house, but any time my dad took the shotgun off of the gun rack that dog was at attention.

Funny, I also act better when someone near me has a shotgun!

They're neurotic dogs; the GF's parents have had a few and if they're awake they need to be on a mission

It's a good trait if you actually have something to hold their focus all day, (like maybe herding sheep, lol) but if not they can be a handful.

Yeah, not really an ideal dog if you leave for work at 6AM and get home 530-6PM.

Granted, most dogs wouldn't do great in that situation, which is why we don't have a dog currently. I'd also feel bad leaving it alone for that long.

I have an unusual mind and a large vocabulary. Makes for some odd turns of phrase sometimes.

I will have a similar problem when our current dog dies. When we got her the GF and I worked odd hours and there was never nobody home with the dog for more than a couple of hours at a time. Now we both work the same schedule you've got, basically. Both leave the house at 6:30 or so and neither of us gets home until around 5:30 or so. Since she's older Weez doesn't mind that much (she just sleeps on the couch and wakes up around 1 to bark at the postman), but a younger dog? Forget it.

Train your dogs with hide and seek, and how to find your gf and yourself. It is a great game and really works a dog out much harder than any long walk. When we have bad weather my wife just plays hid and seek for like 20 minutes with our 5 dogs and they go nuts for it (they get a tiny treat when they find her, or she will just hide some around the house) but after they are passed out. It also helps them learn to use their noses better and you will notice on walks they are sniffing more than they normally do. My dogs now track animals in the woods and they used to just run around like idiots.

I don't either for the same reason. Being gone 12 hours a day is too much.

Not to mention if I go hiking in Maine or something I'd have to figure out a place for it to be for a couple days.

This is spot on! If you don't have time for your own dog, you can always go visit a local shelter and play with one, or you could most likely call any friend you have and say "Hey, could I take your dog for the day? or "Hey, I was going to go for a hike, do you think your dog would want to come" and they will love you for it.

It's not fair to leave a dog alone all day with nothing to do and no way to go outside. If you could get it a buddy or two, and have a dog door to the back yard, I think that'd be okay.

    Very Purdy. Get it?

No shooting steel shot out of that one, though.

Which is fine; doesn't take much to knock a grouse/partridge down. It'd be a shame to have it go WHOOMPF.

I live in MA, I have no idea what kind of crap they'd come up with if they really tried. Fortunately, my town seems to be pretty level-headed.
I like that one  And, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the Grand Design.

If that's your schedule, an Australian Cattle Dog isn't for you. You want something much lazier. Great Danes actually make pretty good dogs for that, they tend to be fairly lazy but will still get out and run when they get the chance. If you just want a dog that will be chill and lazy all the time, get a bull dog.
