Let me pre-qualify this post by saying, nobody is perfect. If mistakes hadn't been made over history, we would still be riding on spokes.
My '16, beautiful, black, 4 door, making my kids smile, Taco (Ecobum-Killer) developed a funky smell. This was strange to me, because as wife wife puts it, as she gets in, "When is the next surgery"?. Well piss off, I like the inside of my of my mobile sound stage to be clean and tidy. So as I travel extensively, by plane mostly, for work I kept putting it off. Once the blower motor took a crap I decided to take 'er in. So, as I was getting the kid seats out of the back, my knee got wet while kneeling near the door sill. So I asked Toyota to "Find the leak.....please".
(Sorry sir, no loaner available. Feel free to walk across the largest city in the U.S. to get back home)
Blower motor, the squirrel cage snapped at the input shaft and wedged itself against the housing. Easy fix, it was done that day.
Later that day I got a call from my S.A., telling me I was now able to have a loaner car. The third brake light, on the back of the cab, was leaking, and had been for some time. Upon inspection they found a massive amount of Black Mold in the "El Camino" areas, under my back seats, as well as under the carpets. They told me Toyota Corporate wasn't sure how to handle it, and for me to pick up a loaner until further notice.
When I went to get the loaner, I had to show proof of Insurance, which was in my Frog Smasher. They led me back in the shop to the truck, where my interior was now conventionally re-located to the bed.
    So now i'm rocking a '18 C-HR. (That's a lie, i'm currently in Canada with a rental Sentra)
    Ill keep you posted.
Side note: The C-HR is a nice ride... if you are into that kinda thing.

Hope they figure out the best way to deal with it, moisture in the cab is not good.

What would one look for if one wanted to do a check on their own truck?

I think 99% of the leaks in our Trucks come from the 3rd Brake Light.

Mine was wet at the left rear door sill. Also, there were water spots behind the left rear seat around the bottom of the window.

Did you not notice the big wet spot/dropping from the headliner?
That sucks.. what's worse is kids in the truck with mold around them :/
Toyota will get it rectified as this is a common problem on the early models.

The liner never showed any signs of a leak.

Must have been a small drip drip over time. Sucks, once things get moldy its hard to fix

@mesojdm is there enough wiggle room in the headliner just to kinda peak up by the third brake?

Went today to get my Company Gas Card from the truck. Still tore apart, and still waiting on Toyota Technical Corporate to make a decision.
The CH-R is getting around 40 MPG around town.
