 Following... Have never had an extended warranty before. I guess I have until my 3 year/36k mile runs out to decide. Good points above on piece of mind with all the added tech especially on the 3rd gen.

Extended warranty saved my butt on a Dodge truck when the tranny took a dump. In those days I paid $500 for the warranty and the repair was just shy of $3000.

No. Its not because of the snow and salt in New England and it’s not basically the same thing. You cannot compare a third party warranty with Toyota’s warranty. Third party to delegate? Your warranty is a third party.

You can get a 7/125 for $1,250.00 from Troy Dietrich. He sells the 7/100 for $1,025.00. The 10/125 is $1,795.00.

in case anyone wants to know, I can pick up a 84/100k for $1355 on a tundra which is in a higher tier (4) than a Tacoma (3).

on my 2016 I picked up a 84/125 for $1250, got a refund of $938 when I traded the Tacoma in for a 18 tundra.

oh and this is a Toyota oem ext plat. zero deduct warranty and not a 3rd party company.

Yes. He used to be able to sell to anyone, anywhere. But other dealers started complaining about him. He can still sell to you, it is now just a little bit harder. Great guy. Bought from him before. Highly recommend.

I attempted to purchase from him as well but was unable to due to being out of state.

    Contrarian view:
In the first part of my driving career I learned how valuable it is to have a reliable and durable vehicle. So, in the past 20 years or so, I have only bought Toyotas, Hondas and Subarus. I have purchased 13 (for me, wife, two now grown children) vehicles in the past 20 years. I have not bought any extended warranties. My reasoning? These are dependable vehicles. I did my research. Also, most things that will happen, happen in the first year or so. After that, it becomes a durability issue. So, out of 13 vehicles (7 were driven past 100K miles), I have only had one out of pocket expense. A squirrel was the cause... anyway, If I had bought an extended warranty for each of these vehicles, it easily would have cost me $15K. So the way I see it now, if anything happens, I have a $15K "bank" to pull from to cover the repairs out of warranty. Was I lucky? Yes and no. I did my research and picked the most reliable and dependable vehicles out there and stayed with them so that was not luck. The only thing I will concede to luck is getting 13 vehicles that were good without getting a bad one in the process.

    Just my opinion.

Has anybody gotten a deal on both the Platinum VSA and Toyota Care Plus at the same time? I was thinking of doing both since I have a few other project cars I'd rather spend my time working on vs doing maintenance to the Tacoma.

I got an email the other day from Toyota with a "great" offer to extend Toyota Care to 45k for only $329 saying it was normally $624... but after I did the math it only saved $39 off the cost of the 4 services it covered. They were valuing the roadside assistance at $256... since I know how to change a flat tire, jump start a battery, and fill up before I'm out of gas roadside assistance is pretty much worthless to me. And if I was buying the VSA both of them would cover roadside assistance.

If its not possible to get an actual good deal on Toyota Care Plus I'll just get the VSA when the time comes and do the routine services myself.

Also - glad I laughed at my dealer when they originally offered the extended warranty... they tried to tack on the VSA to 6yr/100k for $2800 when I bought the truck, then said "but it'll cost you $3200 if you buy it later"...

The cost of the 30k service is $300. It is a great deal.

I’ll pass on anything 3rd party regarding an extended warranty. Been there and won’t make that mistake again.

The OP was interested in the Toyota Platinum Warranty, not any 3rd Party warranty.

^This is a great deal for a platinum warranty. I paid about $1500 after talking them down from about 2k, never saw anything this low. Would certainly recommend getting the warranty at this price. I still believe it to be worth the piece of mind at $1500.

However, what I will add to this is to make sure it will not change hands to a 3rd party in the future. Ask your Toyota rep who is helping you with this purchase if there is a chance it might happen.

For anyone else looking for more info, I’d pass on the 3rd party. It can be a bit troublesome. Found that out with the ‘08!

Yeah I would never mess around with a 3rd Party warranty either, too much of a pain in the ass.

most Toyota ext. warranty you can transfer to the next owner if you want that as a selling point.

Got suckered into an extended 6 year 75,000-mile warranty for somewhere around $1500. Canceled it 2 weeks ago and still waiting for the return. I know Toyotas are reliable and I have the standard 3-year 36k warranty. I believe I have until then to decide if I want to pay for one.

Bought a 2018 tacoma manual DCSB OR. I am also single and make good money with no other expenses at the moment. My advice, shop around if you need that extra bit of happy feeling. I could have done way better on a warranty but I didn't want one in the first place. Damn finance guys are masters of their craft.

Call Toyota Financial if you want to cancel so you don't have to deal with the sales pitch again.

Keeping the extra cash in the bank for a rainy day.

I purchased the 7 year 75,000 mile bumper to bumper extended warranty from Toyota when I bought my 2016 Tacoma. The dealer explained that it is zero deductible, covers all electronics, complete drive train and the best part is it you don't use the plan (if nothing goes wrong with the truck) at the end of the 7 years or 75,000 miles Toyota will refund the total cost of the warranty. I figure this was a no brainer, hope I never need to use it so I can get the refund.
