    This 100% , @toyotatacomaTRD

I love my truck, but for a "truck" person, it just doesn't deliver. I'll still keep it, but if I used this all the time for real truck activities (especially towing) I'd be getting something else. I'm guessing a full size is probably in your future. Tundra??

The new stuff is very nice no doubt...stuck in the past, maybe. But Toyota really hasn't changed the same basic design of their truck...only made it bigger. Not seeing it as much of an advancement. Their cars however seem to get all the R&D dollars. One of the first to bring a hybrid to market, right? Their trucks are bit stuck in the past. Is it me stuck in the past or is it Toyota?

Would love to see a hybrid truck, but they keep on repackaging the same old thing. What is so modern about it, other than having a computer in the dash?

I have done "something" have tried renting a Tacoma for a week to see if I could get a better feel for it, impossible to rent one... at least in my area, none of the dealers do it. Thought I wanted a Subaru Ouback there for awhile, rented it for 2 weeks to see if it work, found it only "ok". Don't understand why they are so popular.

What is so "modern" about the new Tacoma trucks? All new trucks in general?
    1. Safety. Light years ahead.
    2. One word. Computers. They are much better than you for figuring stuff out, like being able to brake each wheel independently so you stay shiny side up.
    3. Efficiency. No comparison. A modern truck is much more efficient than a truck from 30 years ago.
    4. Emissions. Again, no comparison.
    5. Power. How much power does your 1st gen have?

Those are but a few of "modern" things any new truck from any new manufacturer has that your old trucks don't. Now, you may not have any need for these things and truthfully, I don't care. You wanted to know what was modern. I listed several. If it makes the truck better or worse is a matter of opinion.

Toyota sells 17K of these things a month because people want them. They like them. They see things you apparently don't see. I hope you understand that you are not in the majority with your opinions of this truck.

The size isn't really a hindrance. Try driving a fullsize for a while. And parking in a place other than Costco (they seem to have unusually big parking spots). I couldn't get used to that. Even with cameras and sensors, it is a hassle. Tacoma is much better. Yes, it's bigger than a 1st Gen, for sure. But it's a very manageable size that you will get used to in no time. I really wouldn't let that deter anyone from buying one.

Agreed. The size is nothing. Its like parking a medium/large crossover. (In some ways easier cus I can park over curbs)

    No need to get huffy...

    1. Just added airbags...nothing ground breaking. Maybe the new adaptive cruise control safety sense, but people really should be paying attention to the road and not their phones. I loose count of how many people on are on their phones during my work commute

    2. Not much of an improvement over ABS, and traction control is fairly old tech. Land Cruisers 4Runners had it for awhile.
    3. I am not seeing any earth shattering gains in efficiency. Only that the fullsizes have caught up. I used to get 22-23 HWY out of mine when it was new.
    4. Mine still passes, what is new...an extra cat, or something?
    5. Power has increased but in all the wrong places. Would of like to see a hybrid assist to get better low end torque (would said diesel, but we all know that will never happen from Toyota, of course the Big 3 all have it now.)

Oh, I know I am not in the mass majority....a lot of people love Justin Timberlake...or that kid from Canada...skinny tattooed kid that acts tough...what is his name???

But I sure don't! I don't care about keeping up with Jones, feel no need to impress anyone. As am standing at the window at work looking at the 1980's HiLux Longbed in the next parking lot over...$35K tossed at that thing would be pretty killer. LS swap...coil-over link it front and rear....hmmm....

Maybe I need go hang out in the HiLux section... :D

Out curiosity Ford does sells over 70K F-Series a month, holy crap! Must be doing something right.

As someone who uses their tacoma as a truck, always loaded, pulling a trailer, blah blah blah, seeing all these posts about how you can't do this with a third gen boggles my mind. I don't see how you can expect much more from a midsize. I came from a 1 ton Chevy and I honestly have no real complaints.
I don't particularly care for the double od tranny, and cruise control is a joke imo if I'm honest. But neither issue is as bad as some make it. I can hold 5th and 6th gears in all but the steepest hills where any auto trans would downshift anyways. Cruise is not good at this, at all though. If it had the 5 speed auto from the second gen it would be close to perfect imo. But unfortunately that's not the world we live in anymore.
I dunno, I just drive the damn thing.
